DVD regional zones

Hello

I am hoping someone can help me get through some online purchase anxiety. I have been looking forward to being able to get hold of the new edition PR DVD and others... but I am a Zone 4 dweller and the US Amazon site warns me that the new zone 1 DVDs may not play on my "multi zone" player due to new Regional Coding Encryptions (RCE)...or something neutral

Has anybody from Downunder braved the new Zone 1 DVD and does it work? Or maybe there's a zone 4 version out there somewhere ?I'm pretty sure it isn't available here in NZ in the shops yet... and it'll be some hideous price anyway....

I appreciate your help.

PS. This is my first post - sorry it's so prosaic. I will get braver... wink

I can't try it, as I'm not in your region, but.....

Do you have the hack code for your region free player? If so, you can usually set it to "Region 1" rather than "Region 0". It will only play region one discs in that mode, but at least you can watch it.

RCE protection only looks for "multi region" settings, not for "region 1" settings.

Alternatively, if you are happy to watch it on the PC, download a piece of software called "DVD region free".

I'm living in France, thus a DVD "2" zone, and the Zone 1 DVD of Under the cherry moon works perfectly on my multi-zone DVD player...

Thank you. I had no idea about "hack codes"... I will make some enquiries (presumably the manufacturer will not be able to help me...!). Cheers

Is it a "legal" region free player or a "hacked" player?
If it's a "legal" player then look for a firmware update on the manufacturer's site...
Otherwise, like SquirrelMeat said, use "DVD Region Free" on your PC...

If you have a region-free player, then region 1 should be fine.

All my DVD players have been altered by the store I purchased them from, and I've never had any region problems.

All 3 Prince Region 1 movies play perfectly in my (originally) Region 2 DVD player.

For hacks for DVD players look here
http://www.dvd.reviewer.c...ltiregion/ (UK site so may not have your model)
or here
http://www.videohelp.com/dvdhacks
international site so probably more chance. Bear in mind that if it's a Pioneer or Sony, than nothing short of a hardware hack will work. Most "lower-end" players are easier to hack than "high-end".

Thanks - my player is a region free player (purchased as such) - I mean I hire region 1 movies which play fine - it was this "new encryption" I was worried about but as others have now said, this doesn't seem to be a problem. Perhaps Amazon are just being overly cautious...
