No. Nobody liked it even when it came out. Most people into Prince were in fact quite shocked how bad it was back then and I'm glad the sentiment hasn't changed that much. [Edited 9/24/04 2:18am]

I like both albums very much but logically, The Rainbow Children beats NewPowerSoul...I mean, TRC is on a completely different level than NPS, seriously now!
NPS is funky rebellion whereas TRC is jazzy spirituality. &

NPS is better by a hair...at least it sounds like Prince (albeit very very watered down Prince). Rainbow Children sounds like its from an old preachy jazz hack who has forgotten how to make music that entertains anyone but his own damn self. New Power Soul is the sound of a pop star disintegrating; TRC is the sound of a once great building being demolished. Both represent low points in the man's career but TRC just seems to be the lowest...for several months after it I didn't care if P ever released another album because it sounded like he was completely spent. Thankfully he did because even though it certainly isn't one of his best records Musicology shows life and effort and heart.
Don't even get me started on Chaos and Disorder... All good things they say never last...

Rainbow Children is infinitely better, though NPS has its moments.

The Rainbow Children is one of my favorite Prince albums while NPS is somewhere down at the bottom of my list. NPS has Mad Sex, Come On and Wasted Kisses, but the rest is so-so or just plain embarrassing. So TRC wins by far! RIP Prince: thank U 4 a funky Time...

Is there an equivalent of "Jughead" on NPS or something? What exactly is so unforgivable?
