Ballad of Dorothy Parker. I was always so-so about this song. I just happened to be over at my friends house and he played it (I didn't know he was a big fan) and I did a hey this is a really cool song and we started talking and the next thing I knew I had two mix tapes of a lot of stuff I had never heard.

When I started to listen Prince I thought he was a so-so artist, then when I finished downloading When doves cry I was hooked. This song holds a special place in my heart, and I'm sure it is too many other people too.

Glam Slam - Sitting smoking behind the gym at school and some older kids were in there playing five-a-side or something. The tape they were playing was obviously Lovesexy, but I didnt know at the time. I just heard Glam Slam and that was me hooked...

I asked who it was, what it was and then went out and bought it. Then Batman the movie came out, loved it and realised P had done the soundtrack. So I bought that, loved it and then decided I was becoming a P fan... Next purchase was PR and everything then snow balled....

I dont think I will ever be able to capture the magical feeling of discovery from those days. I dont know if it was because I was young and impressionable or because P was in extraordinary form at the time. All I know is, P has never quite been able to give me that same excitement as he did then... It could have something to do with the fact that we were moving into the 90's and, well, it wasnt his best decade was it?

But, like a drug, I have been unable to quite let go, always hoping that the next 'hit' will be the one I have been waiting for... However, like a drug, maybe the first 'hit' is always going to be the best, never to be repeated again.

GLAM SLAM!!! I already loved P before, but this got me hooked and looking for this website. I was surfing through the video channels and just happened to catch the last part of the video, the breakdown at the end with the violins and shit, and thinking to myself "OMG...what..is..this??" so i watched to the end so i saw the name of the song and downloaded it as soon as the video went off. I think i listened to it 150 times that day, and i've been in love ever since. I hum it on my way to work, while i'm working, and on my way home.

It was back in the early 80s ... I was six or seven and my dad had some weird video playing on the tv. I didn't know who or what it was then. As it turns out it was the video for AUTOmatic. That did it. I was hooked. Then shortly thereafter Purple Rain came out and the rest is, as they say, history.

For me it was Purple Rain. I heard bits and pieces when it was out but the first time I remembered hearing the whole song was when I was 9. I had never heard a song so beautiful before and it was like a climax to me for the whole album which I heard for the first time then too. That changed how I viewed him forever and I haven't been the same since.

Before that Prince was just some weird guy who sang "I Wanna Be Your Lover" and some song about a red car that I didn't get at the time.

But then....


The song was different from anything on the radio. The video was excellent. I had to learn more about this Prince cat!

For me its got to be "I Love U, But I don't Trust U Anymore" from the Rave album, I didn't know he could write a truly beautiful, heartfelt, emotional song as that. Sometimes I would listen to it three or four times in a row. Such a brilliant song vocally aswell.
