Is Prince the most respected artist by other artists in music?

Most of his peers, respected or otherwise (the Beyonces of the music world), have awknowledged Prince in one way or another be it with compliments or covering his music...

Madonna, Bowie, McCartney, Jagger, Clapton, Jeff Beck, Bob Dylan, Outkast, The Roots, Beck, Foo Fighters, Trent Raznor, Miles Davis, Larry Graham, U2, Slash, REM, Jeff Buckley, Cyndi Lauper, No Doubt, Stevie Nicks, Kate Bush etc.

Then there's the likes of Britney, Justin and other popstars with limited talent who also admire him.

So that's quite a lot of respect, I'm not sure many could compete with that.

you know that's a really good question. When you really think about it, I think his influence and respect spains across way more genres than any other artist.

he very well maybe the most respected amongst his peers.

I agree. Among contemporary artists, many love and respect Prince but revere others, both living and dead, like Miles, 'Trane, Jimi, Stevie, Hendrix, Duke, Lennon et al.

I don't know. Why don't you ask every artist in music and see?

I'm gonna say, and I'm not saying it's justified, but I feel Michael Jackson and Madonna are most respected as influences by other artists. I always hear their names dropped sad.

Prince, not nearly as much, though I think if asked about Prince, 99.5% of today's artists would acknowledge his talent and influence.

On second thought, I'm thinking more about pop stars than artists, so nevermind.

It would be difficult to measure such a thing about any particular artist. But there is no doubt that there are tons of artists from a myriad of genres who have covered his music over the years. And then there are those who some might least expect to be fans who are (think Bette Midler, Barry Manilow...).

I can see him being respected by his fellow "older" artists. If the "newer" artists respect him so much....why the hell can't they jam like he does? They say they were influenced by him but I don't hear it in any of their music. Prince knows how to get faster than "midtempo", why can't they?
