I know it isn't quite the same as being nominated for a Grammy or American Music Award but just wanted to let folks know Prince is up for 5 Minnesota Music Academy awards this year. Voting is already over, and the awards will be presented on September 22.

Prince is up for an award in the following categories -

R&B - Group/Artist
Guitarist
Best National Recording - "Musicology"
Song of the Year - "Musicology"
Artist/Group of the Year

I don't know about nowadays, but I remember when the MMA was first doing these awards shows! It used to be quite the star-studded event -I got to go to a couple of the awards shows back in the mid80s and had so much fun. The one year (1986, maybe? 87? gettin old, memory isn't go good anymore ) it was held at the Orpheum and my boyfriend at the time and I went and I'd been kidding him all day prior to the awards that I was hoping St. Paul would be there because I thought Paul was so cute. (I did that mostly b/c my then-boyfriend wasn't especially fond of Paul and I liked teasing him. ) Well when we were standing in line that evening to get inside the Orpheum we were directly behind this blonde guy in a long cool-looking coat and I started joking to my boyfriend "Oh look, it's Paul! It's Paul!" and acting all goofy and moony-eyed, you know just to annoy my boyfriend...well, it turned out it actually WAS Paul. I was so embarrassed. Then when we walked through the doors into the venue we saw this guy leaning against the wall just inside the lobby who turned out to be Miko Weaver.

After the awards show the one year we also met and got to talk with Matt Fink for a few minutes and he is a very, very nice man. (very funny and charming too!)

Well anyway just wanted to let you all know about Prince being up for the 5 MMA awards.
