No matter how one feels about her, no one can deny that Madonna has made some kind if impact with music and society in general and anyone who doesn't realize that must have been living under a rock for the last 20 years. I like Madonna's music, she's made some of the best songs in the last 21 years but for me Prince is light years ahead of her because he has the whole package as an entertainer and a musician where Madonna's just an entertainer. Not a bad one, but just one. Just my 2 cents.
I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

Wow, ANOTHER Prince V Madonna thread, i love these so much. Its not like this ground doesnt get covered every single week. Who started this dumb ass thread, you should be ashamed of yourself - idiot.

It seems to me that most Prince fans have a real chip on their shoulder when it comes to Madonna. Can't bring themselves to do anything but hate on her, but there are a select few of us out there who have the perspective to be able to see each for what they are, and love them both seperately. I love Prince, and I love Madonna. Both different in what they do. Both talented. both successful. both great performers. Both great music icons of our time. Cant we just leave ita at that. You dont see madonna fans coming on here or madonna sites for that matter hating on Prince, so why do so many pathetic prince fans feel the need to do the same on here time and time again. This site has really gone downhill in the past few months. Nothing interesting being discussed, just "my music icons better than your music icon".....wake up morons and stop acting like kids.

Look what Parade magazine had to say about Prince and Madonna in an August issue:

Q. People once dismissed Prince as a bizarre has-been. Now he’s in the midst of a great musical comeback. How do you account for his sudden new popularity?
—Talia T., Washington, D.C.

A. Dazzling musicianship, brilliant marketing (he funds his own projects, presses his own CDs and sells his music directly to fans) and a newfound spirituality (the singer converted to the Jehovah’s Witness faith). And we’d add another factor: Unlike Madonna—who turns 46 this month and is still trying to woo audiences with showmanship and sexuality—Prince Rogers Nelson, also 46, is making beautiful music.

Obviously the writer of this statement hasn't a clue to save their life. They mention Madonna still using sexuality, when she hasn't in such a long time. If the kiss between her and Britney is what they consider sexual, get real cause that's far from sexual. Meanwhile we still have Janet taking off her clothes, and they say nothing about her....

Of course anyone who makes a statement like this about ole Madonna won't have a clue in the eyes of the Madonna Brigade...

Well excuse me, i didn't realise that this was going to be ANOTHER prince vs madonna thread. I didn't expect to receive a bunch of dumb-ass comments either; i thought i was asking prince his fans a legitimate question, hoping they might share their thoughts about his level of popularity. It was of interest to me because i know that prince and madonna are comparable. Besides, what people think and have to say about this issue today is not the same as yesterday.

OK maybe in hindsight I was a bit harsh on you - the thread itself wasn't directly pitching one against the other, its just that these threads inevitabley just turn to the bashing of another artist and its pointless. My complaints are directed towards those who simply can't accept other people liking another artist. Its like a few months back we had endless Michaael Jackson Vs Prince threads, now these seem to have turned to Madonna. So called "purist" Prince fans are obsessed. Its like they have a chip on their shoulder that prince was never as commercially successful as either MJ or Madonna, and to exorcise this they have to simply dismiss them as talentless, and insult them, simply because they're "not as good as prince" - jeez set your mind free people - open your mind up to the possiblitity that other artists can be talented and successful too - this doesn't detract in any way from princes talent or acheivements.

LOL, whats she write then besides shit. IF she manages to get her name on the writing, it was probably because of her powerful ego pull.

She sucks, all there is to it.

Well that's your opinion, but when you say she doesn't write her own music that's just slander.

Think again. She writes her own music like Ozzy writes his. She may come up with a line or two, or sing some semblance of a chorus to an actual songwriter. That's it.

Then she shows her boobs and all is forgiven. Ozzy shows his, and he's shamed. wink

Was Prince really involved with the tune? If so, that explains why it's the one song by Madonna that I actually somewhat enjoy.

No, she writes the lyrics as she's said before. The reason there's credit for a songwriter along side her in the credits is because they write the music due to the fact Madonna is not a musician.
WHen was the last time Madonna showed her breasts? seems like a decade ago, yet you people still have to use that as your only defense. Pretty lame.

Prince was not involved with that song whatsoever. He had a featured track on the album which was a duet with him and Madge and that is that.

You guys are getting it confused with 'Justify my Love'.

Friend of Prince, Lenny Krafitz, wrote that one. She stole it outright.

Wait...up..., more like this

Ingrid Chavez, a singer who had worked with Prince, sued for royalties from this, claiming she wrote it with Kravitz. It was settled out of court and Chavez got a composer credit along with Kravitz and Madonna.

Even more interesting:

"Meanwhile, Chavez sued Lenny Kravitz for not giving her credit for co-writing Madonna's Justify My Love. Chavez's style consists of breathy spoken passages over heavy dance beats and this can be clearly heard in the Madonna track. Chavez is quoted as having said that Kravitz didn't write any of the lyrics and only came up with the phrase justify my love. She is also reported to have said that Madonna only changed one line of the entire song. She was finally given credit for the lyrics plus a rumoured couple of million dollars in an out-of-court settlement " - http://www.leninimports.c...havez.html

Ok well in the credits it siad it was written by Lenny Kravitz and additional lyrics by madonna, in this case the one line. It's not like Madonna was taking huge credit for that song anyways.

Whoever reading this dumb debate between me and whoever wishes to retort should wonder:

WOULD Prince ever steal ideas or let people write his music just so he could sing to it?

Would Prince dance a song that wasn't his own with the same feeling on stage?

Thank you

This is Lenny's problem not Madonna's, jesus christ! Can't you read what you write? Madonna never took credit for anything in the liner notes. What the fuck are you saying. And it says she sued Lenny NOT madonna. READ, LEARN TO READ.

Madonna is a horrible musician because, she's not a musician. And for such a cheesy performer, she had a sold out tour and was charging ticket prices up to 300.00. Looks like you're just proving how little you know.

Well, Madonna has never had a successful movie or an album that was number 1 for 6 monthes. I'd say back in 1985, Prince was a LOT bigger than Madonna. And today, he has a very successful album(something she hasn't had in a couple of years) and a huge tour. Of course, she got on the bandwagon when she saw Prince making his comeback, and decided to do a "hits" tour herself. What a surprise. Madonna copying someone. We've all heard the hype about how well her tour is doing(at $300.00 a ticket for lip syncing), but we all know she can only sell out venues in really large cities. Madonna could not sell out Raleigh North Carolina, Columbia South Carolina or any other secondary market. Why do you think she's writing children's books now? What happens when music artists can't sell records? They write books or try to act. Prince wins in the end. He has a lot more respect from the industry and right now from the general public.

but Madonna (the Madonna Louise Ciccone) has more websites, in more books (biographies, history and other), pictures, merchandise, video clips and other movie appearances, people working for her etc etc

That's because she's an attention whore. shrug
