Prince's self-titled album

Finally bought it...I like it..Prince's tenderness and innocence are just beautiful. I laughed at the name of the song, but surprisingly, "When We're Dancing Close and Slow" has really stood out for me. It's sexual and delicate...whereas ballads like "With you" are generic tosh. How do y'all feel about this cd? It's usually excluded from the 80's canon in terms of Prince greats - how does it rate next to his 90's stuff?

I think the first 2 stand alone from the rest. They are GREAT efforts to break in the scene. I think he was giving WB something a little more edgy that the rest of the R&B fare. Some really good songs come from these first two. Just as long as we're together, Bambi, Sexy Dancer, and of course the beautiful For You.

I think in order to understand him as a musician one needs to hear these albums. There is more creativity on them than people realize. It took me a while to actually get them cuz...you know they are old and I didn't know that much off of them, but thanks to people like Ms HCFS here giving much love to these two, I got them and fell in love with both.

Though i do have to say that they were the set up...Dirty Mind was the execution.

this album 2 me was a supreme gem!!!!....i can run this album all the way through and not ever get bored of it!!.....his musicianship and creativity at that time was exceptional as such an early age!!.....i now know why WB gave him exclusive control 2 do his own raw material!!!.....ONE OF MY FAVORITE ALBUMS WITHOUT A DOUBT!

I think it's obscene that this record, and For You, went out so early in the Album Survivor game.

I know people have different tastes and opinions, but to think people prefer stuff like Rave or Emancipation over these two records blows my mind, it's just totally bizarre to me at least.

That thread is really interesting, it shows the diversity of tastes within Prince's fanbase.

You know...they may NOT have either. It's easy to vote against something you don't know. They probably only know Soft & Wet and I wanna be your lover.

I too am very disappointed that they went off the list before others did...especailly For You. Again, I think it's because they just don't know or own either...just a guess.

The Prince album is in my top ten definately. Sexy Dancer and Bambi are two of the best songs on the album. For You is great also. I could listen to this album for hours!

we should get a lil' more in-depth with this album, since the 25th anniversary of its release is comin up really soon (like in a month)...the whole thing is the absolute most, man.

I agree that Dirty Mind was the execution...the biggest change is the lyrics. And the funk became tighter. I'm enjoying the self-titled cd, it's worth owning...but I dunno I'm ready to buy "For You"...
