This has probably been discussed before, so please forgive me.... but has any seen or have the old performance of Prince on American Bandstand? Is there any truth to the rumor that he kissed Andre Cymone?

I don't remember him kissing him.
But it was a long long time since I've seen that.

I do remember that he acted very gay. His manuerisms over the past few years has deliberately played down some of his efeminate traits, but in the old interviewss, like the one Dick Clark gave him after the performance, he's not very good at hiding it.

And that Farrah Facet hair, and glitter gold getup---tacky tacky.

have it & saw it (vh1 aired this a few years ago). bad lipp sync (prince was late on some parts) also prince did the midnight special as well for I wanna be your lover and why u wanna treat me baf (also lip sync it).

From that point on, Prince was being stand-offish, only giving short, "I don't care" answers, as well as holding up his fingers, instead of saying numbers.

And for the record... I never heard this rumor before... Prince DOES NOT kiss André Cymone at any time during the performace.

You're correct, it was Dez not Andre. It's very hard to tell because of the way his head was tilted and his back was turned, but it did kind of look like Prince kissed Dez on "Why You Wanna Treat Me So Bad".

That's the only time Prince got that close for someone to mistake it for a kiss. What are you watching a crappy lo-res, windows media version of this performance?

I thought it was a Pert Plus commercial with all of that hair flailing.

I recorded it when they aired it on VH1 in the 1990s. The first time I noticed the alledged "kiss" was when it was originally aired way back in 1980. That's one of the things that hooked me.

No kissing Occured. As far as Dick Clark..He was Kinda weird and yes he was kinda Rude with his Approach. His Comments were uncalled for. I didn't understand Why he said what he did actually. He Really wasn't that Nice or Friendly to Prince... Kinda Haughty and well He's very Much into Michael and the Jacksons and Diana Ross.

Anyways, the way I remember it was that he seemed SO shy and SO nervous. When DC asked him a certain question (don't remember what it was) Prince put up four fingers, or so. I didn't get the sense that he was being rude, or a smart ass. It just seemed to me that he was shakin' in his high heel boots. I got the sense that the interview must've been torture for him--poor thing. (I felt your pain, Prince. )

Haven't seen that performance in it's entirety in years!
