Cool. When I sit and think about it, he really deserves both. I doubt he'll get them though. Who knows.....?

I'm happy for his recognition, but very unhappy that it's for this album, when I feel he was unjustly overlooked for many others.

That said, I feel it's even worse for him to get nominated and lose to the other nominees than to not get nominated at all. sad

This text was likely copied from the source text of some web site and that web site probably has news links abut that person. Don't worry about it, although it looks a little confusing that when we see news we think N.E.W.S. as in Prince's 2003 four-track jazzfuzion suite. lol

Now this is something that is loooong overdue. Prince should win in both catergories but we know how they will probably go with Urshr. But hey they say that it is a honor just to be nominated. Yeah right!!!! We want a Win!!!

AP blurb...no Prince mention but look at this from the end of the article:

The nominations are based on sales figures and radio play. Winners are selected by a survey of about 20,000 listeners.

Well since Prince got only average support from Mainstream R&B radio, Its safe to say that he got these nominations because of the high "sales" of the album . Another payoff from bundling the CD with the concert ticket

Usher leads American Music Award noms
Tuesday, September 14, 2004 Posted: 4:10 PM EDT (2010 GMT)

LOS ANGELES, California (AP) -- R&B casanova Usher, whose album "Confessions" steamed up the charts with songs about sex, affairs and breakups, received a leading four nominations Tuesday for the American Music Awards.

Many categories included last year's winners -- Toby Keith, Tim McGraw and Linkin Park -- and previous nominees Beyonce, Avril Lavigne, Norah Jones and R. Kelly.

Meanwhile, rapper-producer Kanye West, whose album "The College Dropout" combines gospel, rap and braggadocio, had three nominations, the second most after Usher.

Usher was nominated as favorite male artist in both the pop/rock and soul/R&B categories, and his "Confessions" also has best album bids in both groups.

In the hip-hop/rap class, West was up for favorite male artist, "The College Dropout" got a mention for best album, and his third bid came for the cross-genre award as best newcomer.

Two categories feature all of the same nominees as last year. The country male artist group again includes Kenny Chesney, Alan Jackson, Toby Keith, Tim McGraw (who won in 2003). It also was deja vu for contemporary inspirational music, as 2003 winner Steven Curtis Chapman competes once more against MercyMe and Third Day.

Meanwhile, OutKast -- the big winner at February's Grammys -- was nominated for best rap/hip-hop group, and its Grammy-winning "Speakerboxxx/The Love Below" got a bid for best rap album.

The awards will be presented during a November 14 ceremony that will be shown live on ABC. Talk show host Jimmy Kimmel will host it.

The nominations are based on sales figures and radio play. Winners are selected by a survey of about 20,000 listeners.

How can they let Usher be nominated in the Pop/Rock and RnB categories? Seems unfair. I mean if you look at Prince and Usher, whose CD would fit the Pop/Rock category better? Thats right, our guy!

unfortunately, voting is done by sampling 20,000 people across the us. so its not REALLY an american "peoples" choice award, is it sad

i'm glad p is nominated and i hope he wins but i can't believe we are still in an age where the color of your skin dictates what genre of music you are. i mean, hello! cinnamon girl, if i was the man in your life, the marrying kind, reflection, what do you want me to do...these are NOT rnb songs!

good luck p, i hope you win....so you can call them out when you accept your award!

Prince is just giving everyone a little taste of what it is that he does. And if Musicology doesn't get their attention, the tribute to George Harrison and his 'While My Guitar Gently Weeps' on the RHOF will.

The list of nominees is so predictable bored and hilarious! I'm a fan of Lenny Kravitz, but his latest cd does not deserves any awards as far as I'm concerned. I like the cd, but it's far from award winning. Janet Jackson - WTF?? They must be hard up for nominees this year. I like Janet too, but her latest is awful and shows no artistry at all. Jessica Simpson - WTF?? I just have to shake my head. I hope Prince doesn't appear at these awards. I love seeing him perform, but these awards are a joke.

Musicology is a very good album IMO but I believe the AMA's are just jumping on the bandwagon like everybody else. I believe that Usher will win almost everything, with Outkast close behind. I'm not a fan of Usher, but I know his latest cd has sold millions and millions. I'm not sure why cause he can't sing live worth a shit and can't play an instrument, but I digress. Outkast are a cool group and their cd's at least show's some individuality and artistry. I know I'm biased because I would give the award to Prince only because he's just so god damn talented. The others don't measure up to him at all and never will biggrin

I actually think he can win the R&B Album award..... If Luther Vandross got the sympathy vote last year..he can get the "Ole skool but still funky as hell" sympathy vote this year.

he needs to perform. he cant get a lifetime award, cuz he already got that from them..and Soul Train....did he get one from the Grammies yet? back in 90?

Great news for the purple one, and well deserved, as well. I hope that Usher walks away with nothing, with that overbearing ego.

And, yeah, the nominees for Best Female Pop/Rock look quite.....unorthodox. confuse

I'm hoping he does one more set of older songs that he won't ever play again...like 1999(I know he retired this 4 yrs ago, but I'd like a better live version with the latest NPG and the Rave2000 version just doesn't quite live up to the original IMO), Ugot the Look with Rosie, When Doves Cry(full length version) or, last but not least...Purple Rain on piano.
I know, I know, huh?....but let me explain: I just watched Purple Rain for the umpteenth time on DVD-the 20th anniv DVD--and I can't help but just re-fall in love with his piano playing of the ol Purple jem. I can rewind and watch that 20 second snippet over and over again... and I never tire of it.

cool The Music Awards is a joke. I think the show should not be broadcast live. They should just tape it then air it at a later date. Why even bother when most of the singers do not perform live. It's just a popularity contest. The voters are people who do not no real music when they hear it. They only pick by who is the hotter artist. It's very rare when an artist win that actually should. The show gets worse & worser every year. What would make this show actually watchable is if Prince would host it. Now, I know that would never happen. He has too much class to even bother showing up.

Album: "The Diary of Alicia Keys," Alicia Keys; "Musicology," Prince; "Confessions," Usher.
That category will be hard....here you have a lovely soulful diva who basically followed Prince's footsteps, idolizes Prince, and opened for Prince....and the main man himself who is great in anything he does...and then there's Usher...okay i have Usher's cd...it's cool....but i think (CORRECT ME IF I AM WRONG PEOPLE) that Usher may win because of his song "Yeah" which bored me after I fisrt heard it by the way.....hopefully ither Alicia Keys or Prince wins...i rather see a new-skool artist with soul win than have a new-skool artist who WISH he had soul win....BUT I AM HAPPY PRINCE IS NOMINATED AND HE SHOULD BECAUSE THE BROTHA DESERVES MUCH PROPS!! maybe if Alicia wins, then when he says her acceptance speech, she'll thank Prince for many things...
