So there i was playing the full sequence of 'high' and after it i have to say that despite a couple of strong highlights such as 'my medallion' and 'wilmhou' i realised what a thoroughly lame effort this would have made at getting that elusive hit cd. Simply put it is, to these ears, boring!. The title track sounds desperate and outdated. Thank the good lord that we got TRC instead. If High was released he would have been torn apart.

Releasing High after Rave and NPS would have pretty much put him in the coffin.

Its a nice album for collectors. But 'TRC' towers above it creatively.

Its a shame that 'When I Lay My Hands On U' hasn't recieved a greater audience. I regard that as something of an 'underground classic'.

yep yep totally there with you! High was as low as P could get. 'When i place my hands' was cool and i do like 'Golden Parachute'. "Prince is gonna get you high"??? how lame is that!!

I mean not many people have even been exposed to TRC.

Perhaps it could have been a bonus disc a la Karmasutra.

I think "High" served as a bit of an indication that something else was about 2 come musically.

It still sounds like "NPS" and "RAVE" in parts, but at times it also hints at what was 2 come with "TRC"

Think: U Make My Sun Shine, When I Lay My Hands On U, Supercute, Gamillah.

But yes, it probably was a good idea not 2 release high 2 retail stores. Compared 2 TRC it sounds dull as dishwater.

And songs like "High" and "Sex Me Sex Me Not" are just a pain 2 the ears. So infantile and silly.

With all the technology he's got in his studio, I keep wondering why he can only create 'dance' trax that sound like absolute plastic.

Just like "Human Body", "Strange But True". In essence they are cool trax. It's just the sound. They just sound plastic.

I enjoy the High songs very much. And back in 2000 I was quite upset to hear much about this album and hear some of the songs and knowing that Prince was shelving it. Simply because, I wanted Prince to just release everything, I was already hungering for something new because Rave left me a tad disappointed.

However, I agree, it was a good career move to not release this and concentrate on a project that is more meaningful and ambitious. At this point, it wouldn't have mattered if Prince put another commercially disappointing album into the marketplace. And we would probably all still be here and still be fans if he had. But many of us feel better about the fact that he said "no" to laziness, and put more effort into a project that showed a rejuvenation and love for real music.
