Prince on Piano and Drums

Love the hell out of "SilverTongue" Listening 2 "SilverTongue", and admiring how beautiful P’s voice and piano playing is, makes me proud 2 be a fan. Everyone always talk about his skills on other instruments but I never hear anything on his ability to master the piano and drums other than him being able 2 play them.
I know he’s a great piano player because I have seen him play piano in person many times, but never the drums. Help me out and voice your opinion on his capabilities on playing these 2 instruments.
lol

I think his drumming is quite mediocre , his piano playing on the other hand is
really good .

In terms of drums we dont see Prince play it live very often? Though I love he sequences in Beautiful night on the Sign of the times concert/DVD, and in the Rave 20 DVD during the jam after get off (Technically they are drums smile

I just saw the America video for the first time and he plays drums on there, looks pretty good to me!

It's a strange video really, it looks a lot like the Parade concert, same hair, moves, expressions. The Revolution look and act the same too. It must have been filmed a lot later than when America was first released, does anyone have any info?

Let's see, should we believe some orgers or jazz legend Miles Davis? wink

Miles Davis believed that Prince's best instrument was drums...and I quote "He plays the s--t out of drums."

So just because he (allegedly) said it , it's the absolute truth ?! , can't you think for yourself !?

Dewrede, yes Miles DID say that. It's on the long version profile that includes comments from Eric Clapton, George Clinton, Terence Trent D'Arby, Little Richard, Randy Newman, et al.

Yes, I can think for myself. I just believe that a jazz legend is more qualified to rate Prince's musicanship/musical abilities than an anonymous poster on a message board.

Truer words were never spoken. I prefer a legend's opinion anyday. wink
