Flaw On Parade CD? I was listening to "Kiss", and I noticed that when Prince, in the last chorus of the song when he's screaming orgasmically and singing the final word "kiss", the song flows straight into "Anotherlover". On my copy of the Parade album, "Kiss" is 3:37. But I noticed that on The Hits/The B-Sides, "Kiss" is 3:46, because after he says, for the last time, "kiss", there is about 9 seconds of play (guitar).
So, I was wondering why the album version of "Kiss" would have a shorter running time than on The Hits version. Not that it's any big deal, but why was the 9 seconds cut short on the ALBUM VERSION and installed on the Hits version. Or is my copy of Parade defective? | |

Your copy is fine. Prince must have felt that as a single, the song couldn't end with "kiss", but on the album, he wanted them to flow together. Just a preference of his. Yeah, the album PARADE always had the short/quick ending going straight into ANOTHERLOVER, while the single played out with the two guitars fading out. The HITS collection culls mostly from the singles versions of his songs. | |

Also interesting is how the single version of "Hello" (b-side of Pop Life) has a verse near the end that the longer 12" mix does not. "Hyperactive when I was small, Hyperactive now I'm grown, Hyperactive 'till I'm dead and gone"

Many of Prince's albums are continuous. The singles are made differently to give the song an actual ending because there is not another track for it to flow into. Another example is the echo at the end of the single version of "I Would Die 4 U". Andy is a four letter word. | |

That little flow is my FAVORITE part of that album. I listen to that segue over and over again.

The guitar on The Hits version is merely a fade out from the extended version...on the extended version that guitar continues and then a whole different version of Kiss picks up | |

Actually the single version is not an edit of the 12". The single has two guitars to fade and the ext. only has one...listen carefully.

 my 45 of Kiss was so scratchy, but I would turn
it up anyway to hear that lil wah guitar at the end   "Hyperactive when I was small, Hyperactive now I'm grown, Hyperactive 'till I'm dead and gone"
