Prince ponders his acting future..... Magic 105 - St. Louis, Mo
Clear Channel Radio Network Prince Awaiting Movie Role Pop star Prince is plotting a return to the big screen after an 18-year hiatus from acting. The singer starred in the 1986 film 'Purple Rain' and won an Oscar for its score, but since then he's restricted his movie appearances to small cameo parts. However, the charismatic performer is eager to test his talents in a starring role again - assuming the right part comes along. He says, "I never retired from acting in the first place. I had always left the window open." "I was just waiting for a truly amazing script." There is not one correct fact in this article. Purple Rain was 1984 and he STARRED in 2 movies after and has never done a cameo. Grafitti Bridge was in 1990 which would mean that he is on a 14 year hiatus.
I don't believe this for a second.

this better be a lie. i love prince and utcm is one of my favorite movies but he can't really act. in fact, starring in a movie again would be a BAD idea. very, very BAD.

Does this Clear Channel "scoop" not have a passing resemblance to the tabloid trite published several days ago by the UK tabloid story in the Daily Star reported here:
http://www.prince.org/msg...sg_1934833 "Scripts fit for a Prince: Prince is to return to acting some 20 years since Purple Rain. The bonkers love dwarf, who shocked the world by recently becoming a Jehovah's Witness, won an Oscar for best score for that 1986 flick. But apart from cameo roles, he has not stepped in front of the camera in the past 15 uears. Now, with dwindling music sales, the reclusive superstar has decided the times is right to step back into the limelight and is currently weighing up a number of different offers. He told me: "I never retired from acting in the first place. "I had always left that window open. I was just waiting for a truly amazing script". ... and what a truly amazing coincidence!!! . The only kind of role I could ever see him really pulling off is him doing a parody of himself. That will NEVER happen

Prince was not a bad actor in Purple Rain it was when he took full control of utcm gb that made his efforts tiresome if he was able 2 take direction from someone else I think he could do a great job
say what u will now but be gentle

He can act okay when directed by someone else i.e Purple Rain but he cannot act under his own direction.
Before everyone pipes up, yes I know he was essentially playing himself in PR. When I read about the evils of drinking, I gave up reading.

That is funny; not one correct fact.

I don't think he was a bad actor in Grafitti Bridge, it was the script that was flawed.
And UTCM is genius, he shines a light in this movie. The problem with P's acting career is he doesn't want to act anyone else, he still wants to have his personal characteristics. For example in UTCM, he was supposed to be Christopher but he still had the heels, makeup etc, going.

say what u will now but be gentle I still say he should have done Queen Latifa's role in The Bone Collector. They would have had to change it a bit, because Queen's character was a lil sweet on Denzel, but it would have been a smart move. I'm firmly planted in denial

The responses?? well for me its about his decision LOL i wouldnt mind seeing another p movie but i dont know if id take it seriously...maybe he should come out with a tour movie instead LOL i still wuv the guy, but movie critics are tough...if not tougher than we are lol so yeah maybe its safe that he doesnt act

See, that's why I think The Bone Collector would have been a good move. He wouldn't have been carrying the movie...just a solid, interesting supporting character that gets killed in the end.

nah, this is basically taking a quote from some random interview done this year on tour and made it into a story, the interviewer asked him about films and thats what he replied with, he didnt come right out and say anything on his own.
i doubt he would do something, mainly on the premise that who on earth is going to be sending him scripts?!
