Fav Prince Interview sorry
Excerpts from Prince interview with The Vegetarian Times, October 1997 by Catherine Censor Shemo VT: How, when and why did you and Mayte become vegetarians? The Artist: I've not eaten red meat for about 10 years now. Mayte for a lot longer. I've always had a preference for all things vegetarian but not until recently did I find out how good they were for you (in a physical sense). VT: How far have you taken your vegetarianism? The Artist: We don't eat anything with parents. Complete vegans--both of us! VT: Many people become vegetarian out of concern for their health, but I know that's not what motivated you and Mayte. Can you tell us how your beliefs affected this decision? The Artist: Thou shalt not kill means just that! We don't have to kill things to survive. In fact, the complete opposite happens: If you kill, you will die. VT: That sounds pretty dire. Speaking of dire: Some people think vegetarianism is all about denying yourself pleasure. Have you found this to be true? You don't strike me as the kind of guy who thinks sensual pleasure is negative. The Artist: Mayte and I get no pleasure from playing Russian roulette with food. Eating anything ridden with bacteria raises your chances for disease. Being sick is not pleasurable. VT: I gather that Mayte was the driving force behind your interest in vegetarianism. Would you have gotten there without her influence? The Artist: Mayte showed me how many different vegetarian dishes one could have and never miss the things you would imagine. I never was a big milk drinker anyway, but I really like vanilla soymilk. Being without my wife's influence is not a reality to me, so I don't speculate on life without her. VT: What changes have the two of you noticed since becoming vegetarians? The Artist: I actually enjoy eating more. I have more energy and most of all, my aura is stronger. One can actually feel one's karmic debt decrease with every meal. Mayte enjoys preparing meals for the two of us. It strengthens our bond. VT: Your practical, as well as philosophical experience, is of interest to us. Now that you're eating vegetarian meals, are you learning to cook differently? Do you have a chef who cooks for you? Do you have a favorite style of cuisine or a favorite meal? The Artist: Mayte cooks for us. She's always trying new things. The wonderful thing about veganism is there is no favorite dish because there's no addiction. Non-vegetarians always speak about their favorite food because it usually involves something artificial or something that doesn't belong in them. Ah, the universe keeps expanding! My favorite was when Oprah Winfrey asked him if it bothered him if people thought he was weird or gay and Prince replied ever so cool "Hey....whatever floats the boat".
Another favorite of mine was on MTV right before the release of "Rave Un2 The Joy Fantastic" when the interviewer began asking him questions about his work with Miles Davis and Prince got gotten sick of the questions. Prince looked the other way and started whistling. Attitude is something I have always loved about Prince. Andy is a four letter word.

MTV '85
Rolling Stone '85 Mojo '86 Chris Rock '96 The Chris Rock one has to be the best, simply because Chris asked him the right questions, and Prince gave direct, intelligent answers. Larry King was kinda cool, but I never saw the whole thing. Lovesexy Funkateer

My absolute favorite (perhaps because it's visual) was the one he did on MTV while in France filming UTCM.
He said something like, "I am just like anyone else. I need love.....and water." He was also having to defend Purple Rain, and the violence portrayed, and he said that it's not autobiographical, it was a "story, a fictional story" and I just loved the sound of his voice when he said it.

Tora Tora interview with Veronica Webb. It was so awful, it truly forced me to separate the man from the music (which is always a good thing).

S What was awful about it? I missed it. Prince....uh I mean Tora Tora was acting all nutty and "speaking through Mayte" during the interview. He only would shake his head vigorously or make hand gestures. It's one of the ones where he has his face covered with a veil/shawl, and he whispers in Mayte's ear the whole time. And poor Mayte just comes off...well...as not very bright. It was just a horrid mess. I usually take eccentricities with a grain of salt, but this was the one time I thought P might actually be having some kind of issue. I just thought the whole thing made him look ridiculously silly and kind of immature. (And this is coming from someone who never even blinked an eye about the whole slave thing and name change-I could appreciate his position with respect to all of that). Prince: I date women, george BG: I'll tumble 4 u P: No BG: I Would Die 4 U P: No is there anymore to that?? I think this is a joke. I don't remember any interview between Boy George and Prince. My fav. Prince interview is the one on Oprah. I really liked when he sang while slinking over his piano, and incorporated her name into the song...."OOOh-praaaa". The way he pronounced it, sounded like a symphony. I wanted to see him do something similar on a Tom Joyner Sky Show, but he was reticent when Tom invited him on, over the air, which gave the impression that he wasn't interested. I guess the Sky Show would be too all-Black, for him... [Edited 9/11/04 15:30pm] "Ain' nobody BAAAAAAAD like Meeeee!" c. Morris Day

My fave is the telephone/radio interview that he did back in about 85.
The interviewer asked him what was next for Prince - could he give a clue as to what the next album would sound like? What will be your next project? Will you make another movie? Prince replied ... ** KISSING SOUND FROM 'KISS'** Genius!!! Back in the days where the next project was as intriguing as the last ... PorterUk. "What did the five fingers say to the face?"
