I just went to Musicology a couple days ago and it was an amazing show, but the whole time I was wondering "When's he gonna do the splits?". As far as I remember he didn't do the splits for the Grammy's or the Hall of Fame either, what gives?

i unno about the splits but at the show i went to, he got down and slithered on his belly to his guitar.....**HOTTT*

I havent seen him do the splits since about 97 when, if i remember correctly, he hurt himself jumping off a speaker.

he did them at the 2000 Rave concert, thats the last time Ive seenhim do them.

He does them in his own tempo, which is kind of in half tempo with the music... I haven't counted, but I think he actually only does 6-8 splits or something like that...

Sure, it's impressive anyway, but I bet most people really think he did fourteen...

But the fact is that Prince, just like anybody else, has a lot of tricks going on in his live show, that are supposed to make him look (even) better than he actually is...

Another example on the "Rave" DVD is when he plays an electronic drum solo (just before he does the splits). It looks very impressive, but that's mostly because of the flashing stroboscope lighting - and the fact that he has both Kirk's drums and probably also some programmed percussion under him. What Prince actually plays here isn't equilibristic or anything, but it's clearly designed to look that way...

I can answer your question, ther reason prince refrains from doin the splits these days is simple, ....ITS FUCKING 80'S....ok, ...prince is tryin to move on AND DEVELOPE MUSICALLY SO WHY SHOULD HE CONTINUE TO DANCE THE WAY HE USED TO, ..think about it luv!

He seems just as athletic as a guy in his mid twenties, so I assume he can do the splits just fine--we're probably just seeing him divorce hismelf from some older dance moves.

Besides, if you had balls as big as Prince, you'd hate having them slap that cold stage floor every night of the tour too.
