The Rainbow Children album.

Great music.

Lyrics - Sexist, racist, religious crap.

The album is not sexist or racist.

there are many moments of this on TRC for me, but the song that takes the cake is 1+1+1=3. That groove is sooo hot but the lyrics are downright offensive, IMO, at times. I still am shocked I was able to get past the lyrical content and enjoy the song for just its funkiness...

What in the world is so wrong with the lyrics to "1+1+1=3"?
A dude is telling his woman that if they're going to be together, they need to see eye to eye on spiritual things. How and why are some people here taking this premise personally? To me, it makes sense that if two people are going to be married, it will be a lot easier if they are of the same faith.
Sounds like he's applying the counsel at 1 Corinthians 7:39 to marry "only in the Lord". Hard to see what's so "offensive" about that.

Because it's a man talking. If the song was sung by a lady, then all the men would be saying, "Who does she think she is trying to tell me how it's gonna be?!" Prince ain't saying nothing more than two people who are married should be together in agreement under one head, the Lord. No sexism here.

It just came to me:

Cybersingle

Ugh!!

I could have loved that song, but it might just have the worst lyrics of any Prince song ever.

"I am the Cybersingle, that is me/Come and get my download 2 B free/Or not 2 B free, that is the question, see?"

No wonder he gave it to Napster.

There's several Prince songs that I like, but do not agree w/the lyrics of the songs . I think Prince is at his best when he sticks w/ballads or light topics because he has come off as condescending and angry in some of his music of late and in my opinion that does'nt work for him. However it is His art, His music and the way he chooses to express himself ,therefore I have to keep an open mind and not take it personally because those are his views ,opinions, and beliefs not mine. So, I just enjoy the music and skip over the songs I don't like.

extra loveable is my S.H.I.T, but when i heard that "rape" part, i was like "...what the hell did he just say???" that kinda shocked me. but then again, it is a Prince song.

Agreed. Cybersingle is musically quite wonderful, it's just that the lyrics are terrrrrible and really unfitting with the melody (which is fine on its own).

I'd say the other way around. I can't stand the music or the way he sings the words.

But the wonderful lyrics themselves are very thought provoking and boldly written.
