Probably Coincidence.
Alot of people think that he tries to make such dates symbolic, but that's not the case. The only dates that matter to him are ones that apply to his new found faith.

For example, I once heard that on Christmas morning a few years ago he drank the blood of a freshly sacraficed goat. Many people accused him symbolically dismissing Christmas, but it ended up just being a JW ritual that he was performing that coincidentaly happenned on the same day this year-- The drink-the-blood-of-a-sacraficed-goat day that occurs once every 19th full moon.

I know how you feel. I felt the same way in the late 1980s when he was constantly touring overseas and hardly ever did shows here in the states.
