Back in the 1990s, Prince needed a doctor backstage to "administer a B-12 injection." And while there's still a medicine man around for his 2004 Musicology tour, the 46-year-old musician is now downing Yogi cocoa tea and surrounding himself with the soothing aroma of jasmine and lavender candles (so it's anyone's guess why the artist formerly known as the Artist still needs that medical professional daily at 6 PM). We also salute Prince for setting up tables "at all entry points for collection of Gifts and Flowers." Only a performer who really cares about his fans makes it easy for them to shower him with loot. I'm sure it's in case someone trips and falls an needs immediate care. Or some psycho fan grabs Prince, squeezes and hugs him until he smashes our little hero... You got that right. It's called Rogaine. It's biologically impossible to have a bald father, and not go bald or have thinning hair yourself. That's why I said: "Prince is fighting something besides his daddy's hairline." I thought baldness came from your mother's side. Check this song out at:

For some strange reason, everybody does. It's an old wives tale that has passed from generation to generation. I know from firsthand experience, and extesive research on the subject. Ask any bald man you know, if his father was bald, 9 maybe even 10 times outta 10, you'll get a "yes" answer. Either way, you inherit both parents genetics. The final chromosome pair of the 23 pairs is the sex determining set. While males are XY and females are XX the determination of an individuals sex is made by the father. It is the father who gives either the X chromosome, which matches with the womans X resulting in XX and a female child or the Y chromosome which joins with the womans X resulting in an XY match and a male child. It is the X chromosome or female sex chromosome that contains the gene for Male Pattern Baldness. Since men have only one X chromosome, the gene for baldness is a single expression gene that shows up because there is no possible dominant gene to suppress what would normally be a recessive or hidden characteristic. Since Male Pattern Baldness gene is only on the X chromosome and men can only get that chromosome from their mothers, it is simple to see how this type of baldness is passed from mother to son. The fact that it seems that men in families often have many generations of bald men tend to make this explanation of hard to believe, yet genetics explain it. Male Pattern Baldness is a condition that as previously stated is on a gene on the X chromosome. Since this form of baldness is recessive, it will be hidden if only one of the dominant genes is present. Since women have the XX chromosome pair, baldness will not occur unless both chromosomes have the recessive gene that causes baldness. A woman could have one of three genetic conditions: Both X chromosomes with normal gene represented by Xn Xn this would appear as normal. One normal and one baldness gene on the X chromosome pair represented by Xn Xb, this would appear as normal. Both X chromosomes with the baldness gene represented by Xb Xb, this would appear as a woman with pattern baldness Given these three female genetic possibilities there are 4 possibilities for male offspring: 1 for the first woman - 1 normal male XnY 2 for the second woman 1 normal/ 1 bald male XnY / XbY 1 for the third woman 1 bald male XbY Once a male is born with the baldness gene he automatically passes it on to all his female offspring. If his mate is normal with the gene for baldness (Xn Xb) each female child born has a 50-50 chance of being born with male pattern baldness. This is because bald men can only give the Xb gene. This causes bald men to pass the gene and deplete the stock of Xn Xn females. This is how the women are able to keep producing males with pattern baldness. In total population about 30% of all females are Pattern Bald. Below is a set of charts that illustrate the pattern. Loved your punnet squares, but if i remember from my biology and genetics clases baldness is sex-infulenced and not sex linked. Which means it is not found on the 23rd X chromosome. If it was truley sex-linked there would be more bald women. Also that the pattern is more on the paternal side.... My dad's maternal grandfather bald... he's not.... my oldest brothers maternal grandfather is bald he is not. As I stated earlier... this is where the "old wives" tale comes in. Here are some more current facts, discovered by todays scientists: The causes of male pattern baldness are thought to be complex and are not completely understood. However, as suggested by its medical name (androgenetic alopecia), male pattern baldness seems to involve both hormonal (androgen) and genetic factors. Many different types of hormones play roles in the regulation of scalp hair, but the hormones with the largest effect are the androgens. Testosterone and its more potent derivative dihydrotestosterone (DHT) are responsible for increasing the size of hair follicles in areas such as the beard and underarm during puberty, but can also cause hair follicles in the scalp to decrease in size later in life. These contrasting responses to DHT might be explained by genetic differences in the individual hair follicles. Similarly, in men who are balding, genetically determined characteristics of hair follicles in the scalp may cause the follicles to be more likely to degrade in the presence of androgens. Hair follicles become miniaturized, and the hair consequently becomes thinner and shorter. The growing phase of the growth cycle becomes progressively shorter, which means more hairs are shed. Although the follicles still have an adequate blood supply, they continue to shrink, and some eventually die. Whatever the exact causes of male pattern baldness may be, it is a hereditary trait. There are multiple genetic factors that influence male pattern baldness. A tendency toward baldness in the men on either the mother's or father's side of a man's family indicates a genetic predisposition to baldness. The speed, pattern, time of onset and degree of balding are all influenced by heredity. Generally, the earlier the onset of balding, the more extensive the degree of hair loss will eventually be. Contrary to popular myth, balding is not caused by wearing hats. Massaging or brushing the scalp will not help regrow hair, and excessive cleaning of the scalp will not "unclog" follicles and allow hair growth. While extreme psychological stress may contribute to a form of hair loss known as alopecia areata, normal everyday stress does not contribute to balding and is not a cause of androgenetic alopecia. And the only proven steps to fighting hair loss, are: Hair Transplants (hair taken from the back of the scalp and moved to the top of the head) Rogaine (regrows hair on top of the scalp) Propecia (blocks the damaging DHT hormone) The final proof? Men on my mother's side have always had a full head of hair. My uncle is 70 years old, and not only has a full head of hair, no sign of thinning. My father: BALD, his father: BALD, me: going BALD! My brothers... both my brothers have thinned out and have BALD spots. Therefore if Prince's daddy is bald, he's going to feel the effects 1 of 2 ways. Going completely bald, or thinning. It is biologically impossible to have a bald father and not see some of the same effects on yourself, be it a high hairline, bald in front not in back, bald in back not in front. One way or another your dad's hairline will affect you. If not in your 20's or 30's, it might be your 50's or 60's, but it will get you. Edited for spelling. B-12 injections are believed (by some) to give people more energy. It was kind of a fad for awhile in the 60s.
Other than treating anemia, there is no actual documented fact b-12 injections do anything for a person but the shots aren't dangerous, either, so...why not | |

Yeah I take B-complex, too because I don't always eat the most healthfully and I'd read that B-complex supposedly can help with stress.
