oh dont get me started. I 've seen something like 25 shows over the years and these were the best, what made it great were the people . I'm just so sorry that i dont have the time for the meet ups that happpen in Manchester. This is what going to a Prince gig is all about, the best fans in the world getting together to share the music. I doubt if the vibe at a gig would ever be that good again. Dont you think the London gigs are always full of Prince fans who want to be the loudest and most attention seeking!!, and worse still try and take over the organisation!!.

I went to both gigs! One was like a hard-rocking guitar night, the other night a more soulful and jam session. It was great to be near the front for a change! Musically the best show I've seen from Prince.
I think a lot of 'foreigners' flew in and attended the London shows from what I've heard, whereas Manchester was more of a UK crowd which created a good 'local' kind of vibe. Shame he didn't play an aftershow though, he's never done one in Manchester. I don't think there are any boots of Manchester floating around, which always helps to make it seem more 'mythological', it's always better in your head!

I can't remember the date, but I attended the one where he closed with Purple Rain.
It really was awsome, I've seen Prince several times before, but I think this was my favourite regular show (I attended the Hippodrome aftershow, which was a dream come true). The one thing that sticks out in my mind was the smell of incense. I used incense occasionally as a teenager, some of it was awful, but the stuff Prince was burning smelt pure and clean, and I think it really added to the experience, as did the fantastic lighting.

The crowd response on the 2nd nite was poor. I remember him turning the mic on the club members during the soundcheck version of SOTT and the response was terrible. You could see it on the look of Princes face. I think that some people were embarrased to sing, i was! You do as I say

The soundcheck was amazing i couldnt even feel my body during iti wish icould remember it better it was like i was in a daze. The soundcheck WAS amazing. its a shame the same cnnot be said for the response many of us gave on that 2nd night. P new it. Its strange that everybody went crazy when he appeared, prompting him to go to the mic and say "we havent done anything yet", but when he wanted us to participate musically, many didnt. You do as I say

Yeah I was at both nights and holy crap it was awesome!
I think the response when he came out on the soundcheck second night was because there wasn't a soundcheck the first time round. I think it was just relief and amazement!!! Holy crap there he is!!! lol Hey Nouveau I was at The Hippodrome too! It was a dream come true for me as well!!! if you've gotta pay for things that you've done wrong I've gotta big bill coming at the end of the day- Gil Scott Heron

Yeah, the soundcheck - I don't think anybody knew what to do or what to expect. I'd read posts from the USA shows where he'd done question and answer sessions and invited people up on stage to play, but also just plain soundchecks - so I think we all waited politely to see where Prince wanted to take it.
After all, it was a soundcheck and not a show and you just tend to think, let them get on with their work in peace. I, like a lot of other people, was just content and yet in a state of shock to finally just see Prince in a relaxed, non-show context. Prince noted we were kind of quiet, and he asked us whether we'd gone to the party the night before and whether it was good, but that was it. I remember them 'working' on The Work and then Prince did The Question of U? and Sign o The Times with amazing guitar work that was worth the price of admission alone, although he did them again in the show later on.

Yeah the Question of U in the sound check was incredible. I remember him strolling from his keyboard over to his guitar, i said to my friend (a non prince fan) this is where u will be converted. Sure enough he picked that guitar up and killed it. You do as I say

I was at both nights too.
one of the highlights was on the second night, just b4 the concert i was walking to my seat when i looked up and saw Maceo Parker and a big minder walking towards me. i knew i was going to have to say something to him so as he passed by i patted him on the shoulder and said "Gaun yersel bigman" he acknowledged me with a tilt of his head. Fuck the funk - it's time to ditch the worn-out Vegas horns fills, pick up the geee-tar and finally ROCK THE MUTHA-FUCKER!! He hinted at this on Chaos, now it's time to step up and fully DELIVER!!

I went to the first night, my one and only prince gig ever, and possibly the best gig ive ever been to. It all seems like a bit of a haze now, and im sure i must have dreamt that Empty Room / Purple Rain finale, but it was quite amazing. Knowing that the set lists for the US tour hadn't varied greatly, to hear these two close the show was almost orgasmic. Empty Room....wtf.....I never thought id hear that one live, and a full version of purple rain.....man he must've felt genorous that night.
