Jill Jones and Prince

Is there anyone who can think of any additional songs that Jill Jones and Prince worked on besides these tracks:

Mia Bocca (and Spanish version)
G-Spot
Violet Blue
With You
All Day, All Night
For Love
My Man
Baby You're a Trip
77 blecker st.
baby cries
Hello
Tricky
Boom Boom
Velvet Kitty Kat
Vibrator
Am I without U
1999
automatic
free
it’s gonna be a beautiful night
belle of st. mark
olivers house
ooh she she wa wa
Wednesday
Euphoria Highway
Come Electra Tuesday
Married Man
Killin’ at the Soda Shop
Zebra with the blond hair

I think this is most of the list I can remember.

alot of them haven't been released but are talked about in DMSR, The Vault and other UPTOWN publications. The ones that you haven't heard haven't circulated (we'd all like to hear them). Jill was doing a 2nd album for Prince but it never came out. Too bad they aren't working together anymore because she was beautiful and full of talent and I think they worked well together.

Really? I heard that Prince had nothing to do with it. What songs did he help out on?

Prince album tracks (duh!) - (backing vox work).

Related Artist album tracks (backing vox work).

This is all off the top of my head, so any mistakes, please point them out. I also think she did more backing vocals work for Sheila E, Vanity 6 and Apollonia 6, as well as some other Prince tracks, but I don't have any reference at hand - hopefully someone can fill in the blanks there smile

That's the 1987 LP on Paisley Park, and Prince wrote the whole thing.

She's done bits and bobs since then, working with Chic, and some other artists, her 2nd LP "Two" was released in 2001 (No Prince involvement).

They parted ways after Graffiti Bridge, since it's reported she wasn't comfortable with the direction Prince wanted to point her in (the standard Prince protegee sex kitten role of Vanity / Carmen Electra et all), so work on her 2nd PP LP was never completed, some of the songs date back to the 1982/3 sessions - as do some of the tracks on her first LP.

That was Jill Jones' self-titled debut album, and it was released in 1987 not 1997.
and Prince wrote ALL the tracks on the album (despite what the credits say).

(ah, looks like Nouveau posted the info at the same time)

Hey Boris, can you fill in any blanks from my above breakdown?

I'm sure she did more than what's officially credited too, but I don't really have any info to hand.
(the best way would probably be to check it all by ear, but that would take too long)

I think she did some on Happy Birthday Mr. Christian, and probably most of the Apollonia 6 tracks.

It's difficult to hear, when you have say, Lisa, or Susannah in on the backing vocals too - I think the women Prince had around him then who did some of the backing vox work just made a great sound, there's a certain 'whimsical melancholy' to the sound. - smile

She also did backing vox on "Good Love" with Susannah (according to DMSR)

That was one that I totally missed (had to go back to DMSR and find it and there is a great story in their about it). Damn. You guys all rock! The wealth of knowledge out there on the org is amazing.

I think she also did some work on a GB track or two (Love Machine, maybe more), but Prince removed her voice and replaced it with Elisa Fiorillo's vox.

I agree with Boris, there are probably many more songs that she is not credited properly as contributing to, but Prince isn't always great about giving the proper credit. My guess is that she is around for much of Apollonia 6, and possibly Vanity 6 as well.

Again, you guys totally rock.

"Whimsical melancholy" - that's perfect. I've been trying to describe that sound for 20+ years...thank you!!

I don't know if you could say Prince had anything to do with it but Jill did sing on "I guess it's all Over" and "Strawberry Lover" by Mazarati.

Thank you Turnitup. I didn't know that. I'll have to look into that.

I never knew that either, thanks.

My memory is a bit fuzzy on the credits of the Mazarati LP (although it's one of my favourite related-artists records), but I think Prince wrote the lyrics to Strawberry Lover.

Edit: Also there's a nice biography on Jill over at HQ.com, written by Per Nilsen. smile
