"Even at the center of fire, there's cold."

Just listening to the song "Gold;" this lyric has always perplexed me.

Is there any scientific basis for what he's saying?

Or what does it mean?

Well, now that you mention it..... I do a little bit of lampworking-which is basically melting rods of glass with a torch and making small sculptures, beads etc. with the molten glass. When you do lampworking, you never put the glass in the center of the flame nearest the torch tip, because that part of the flame is cool. You put the glass near the tip, where it's hottest. So yes, I guess there is a scientific basis for this, but I never really thought about it when listening to the song.

Don't you know Prince has a secret passion for lampworking? It inspired all of The Gold Experience album.

Or not....

Whatever. Everybody's a freakin' comedian. The point of my post is that the center of the flame is the coldest part. Sheesh.rolleyes

yeah it is scientific, but metaphorical too think about this:

flames are associated (figuratively speaking) to people who are exhibitionists or wild types..celebrities if you will...

i guess he's saying that yeah, i live the high life but deep down theres a part of me that's sad, that's cold, that nothing that i have because of my success could wake it....

i dont know, jus my twocents

The middle part of a flame is cooler than the outside parts
but i think he's meaning that even when you're a hot artist there's parts of it that really suck and are no fun or make you feel like you're not fufilled.
