The "Purple Rain" rocker, who became a Jehovah's Witness four years ago, now has control of all of his own music following a much-publicized battle with Warner Brothers, and advises young aspiring musicians to steer clear of the "system."

He says, "Stay out of the music industry, stay out of the system. Be revolutionary."

"Some of these young kids say they want to follow me. Well, if you do, then get your spiritual life together if you want your relationships to go right, and it will happen."

He also advises musicians to strive for the musical independence that he has now achieved so they can own their own songs.

So who's Prince hanging out with these days? Oh yeah: Alicia (a ridiculously untalented dimwit brought to you by Clive "I haven't been involved in anything good in ages" Davis) and Beyoncé ("I'll stab anyone in the back after they've helped my career"). Not to mention that both these women babble about real music while recording songs full of samples and covers, and that both of them are too happy to shed their clothes when it helps them to promote their records (hey Beyonce, how 'bout taking some advice from YOUR SONG about women dressing as sluts). And there's the religious hypocrisy of course, especially with Beyonce: God told her that she couldn't kiss girls, but apparently he's got no problem with her sleeping with a former (?) drug dealer and accused murderer.

Ah, the sweet smell of hypocrisy. The stink that so many of so religious people carry around.

He adds, "I'm a writer. Stephen King is a writer. Can I take a page out of his book and call it Prince's Shining? Can I take a scene out of a movie and call it my own?"

Let's ask Sandra St. Victor. Or Morris Day. The list goes on and on and on...

Unfortunately it would've been great if your friend understood that copywrites are pretty inexpensive. You can get 6 of your songs copywrited for just 20.00, and you don't even have to have them written you can just send a tape with the proper paperwork. So he could've just sent in the song he was going to perform with 5 other songs of his. The good news is that he only got ripped off for one song. It could've been more. It won't happen again which is a good learning experience. And he can always rest in the fact that this company HAD to steal a song and they didn't have the talent or decency to create their own song or hire someone to do it.

See, the problem is: Here in Germany it is NOT thet inexpensive... I ain't got facts to tell ya, I've not been in his situation... I would've informed better in his place... but as I'm a singer myself I will have to deal with our officials as well sometime ... And ya right on the creativity. He also sees it like that by now...

Sometimes I wish Prince would shut his trap on certain issues.

If it wasn't for the "Biz", he wouldn't be a multi-millionaire, rich beyond most people's widlest dreams, doing a job he loves to do, leaving a legacy on popular culture, and not having to worry ever about many of the financial and personal issues millions of people around in the World have to worry about.

Let's not forget, Prince has been a recording artist since leaving High School, he has never experienced an adult life, as a regular, working class person.

nod and its because of this extrordinary machine called da biz that he's never had to truely struggle...so prince shut ya pie whole and keep makin music!

I don't need your money.

thats all goody good p cuz i've not paid in a store for a single album by u yet baby...long live downloading and ebay!!!
Yesterday is dead...tomorrow hasnt arrived yet....i have just ONE day...
...And i'm gonna be groovy in it!

I think you guys misread when Prince says "I don't need your money". Of course he needs OUR money, after all our money is the only money he as. He's talking about industry money, which is only a loan that is recouped right from the top. At this stage Prince doesn't need industry money to make records and sell them. No one really does. Even if you're like Nelly and MC Hammer when they first started out selling thousands of cd's from the back of their car you don't need industry money, just a little ingenuity. So that's what he means by not needing your money.

I think this statement was uncalled 4. Calling prince a negro & shrimp....saying larry's a drunk....and his wife a tramp....1st of all, only God judges people bcuz only HE really knows them. 2nd: Larry doesnt need 2 follow prince & there R MANY artists i.e. outkast, alicia, beyonce',eric clapton.....2 name a few, who R either FOLLOWING him or think VERY highly of the man! If one doesnt feel prince is doing what he thinks he should b doing....thats 1 thing...but the slandering and name calling is very ignorant & DISRESPECTFUL. NOT COOL!
May the BELLS ring 4 U even when ur not in love. hug kisses

Name calling and slandering is ignorant and disrespectful but unfortunately it's what makes the org go round and round.

Here's my two cents :

Prince knows that he survived the business this long by taking control.
Many other artist who have been in the business 25 years are now playing state fairs where their performance is free with the price of admission, and they have to take the gig or risk wind up homeless.
Most acts stay famous much longer than they stay rich.
I think Prince is just saying don't hand over your destiny to someone else, that's good advice for anyone in any business.
When Prince says he doesn't need your money, that doesn't mean he doesn't want it!
Prince is a king of captialism.
$25 to log on to a web site?
Give him props for business savvy.
