Why is this the best song ever? The beat is awesome and the length of the song(over 15 minutes) is perfect. Housequake and Days of Wild have nothing on this song.

It's nothing more than an overextended misadventure in the studio courtesy of Prince and Morris Day that perhaps should never have seen the light of day (in official form).

No, I seriously LOVE this song. I listen to it in its entirety ever day. I got the point where i don't play any other song but this one. I can really feel what P is saying and sometimes i feel funky and want to dance and other times i feel sad and want to cry. Cloreen really did him wrong. I wonder if this is a true story?

the song is more a jam but shows what fun one can have in the studio but its just a jam

In the beginning of this song, he says "this is dedicated to my first wife". I think this song is autobiographical. My first wife was named Coleen, so maybe that is why i can relate to it. I think P really put his heart into this song.

According to the album notes, the song was born out of Prince enteraining Morris Day (if I interpret them correctly). Morris happens to be a very good drummer, os I assume it's him on drums, and Prince on bass. The notes also say that it was done on the spot, one take. no lyrics music etc., were done before the recording. Just another sign of Prince's brilliance, and sense of humor. When I first got CB from NPG, It was in a circular clear case, no booklet. I just happened to pick up the traditional CD format last night, and found the booklet included very interesting and informative.

I have the CB cd with the booklet that tells the story of Cloreen Bacon Skin. Even though it may have all been imprompu, it had to come from somewhere within P. I think he was going through that at the time he went in the studio with Morris. Regardless, Cloreen Bacon Skin is P at his best. His voice is better than ever on this song.

YES! It is just the best song ever. I REALLY like that way it just lasts and lasts and lasts and lasts (and lasts). I am SO glad that Prince put in on Crystal Ball (as opposed to the 3 other unreleased tracks he COULD have put on in its place). My hope is that Crystal Ball 2 is just one long version of Cloreen Baconskin 2.

This indeed cannot truly qualify as a song. It is a sketch, fishing for inspiration. Prince used to do this stuff for hours and hours and every now he got lil bits that he turned into songs.

They all stem from this way of recording. Prince just does alot of things, then throws them together to craft a song.

Even though I do not really like this jam, it is an amazing insight in Prince's recording techniques. It's like song crafting cooking class.

I always used to have big discussions with friends that loads of Prince songs just sound they were mixed from one song.

Yep, not really a song, but fun listening to -- plus, like gooey said... it's an interesting insight into how Prince writes and records songs -- several other songs do seem to have come out of this one particular style of jam.

this song was an experiment of drums and bass
as u no irresitable bitch came from it but i think its p in a studio just enjoyin him self with morris day so if u aint ever jammed 4 fun then u wont get it theres nothin else better then just jammin off the cuff
