Hey, I just got through listening to the commentary on 'Magnoli Rain', and did you know that Albert Magnoli:

-wrote the script
-told Prince to write the songs
-chose the songs
-framed the shots
-and edited the picture?

Hell with this site, I'm makin' a new site called AlbertMagnoli.org! I know a true genius when I hear one!

Didn't he and Vanity have a thing during casting for PR? I heard that's why she was removed from the film and Apples replaced her.

Prince didn't write Purple Rain either, Lisa did. He doesn't come up with all the content on all of his projects, there are many other talented people around him. Many classic songs would not have been written w/o Wendy and Lisa. The movies aren't high art, but there were other people that steered Prince in the direction of this project. I'd prefer a world in which Graffiti Bridge was an Albert Magnoli production...

You are a bit "overdoing" it when you say she wrote the whole thing. Soon you'll pretend she did the guitar solo as well. For fuck sake, Prince has many defects and has done many negative things in his life but do not take deliberately and viciously things he did and deserves to be credited for away from him.

it is my understanding she wrote the intro as well (and thus the chord sequence the song is built around -- anyone confirm this?). and didn't prince say he wanted "purple" in the title of the movie...someone else came up with the name Purple Rain...

and Wendy definitely plays the solo and sings the whoo-hoo-hoo bit

that chord progression is used a lot -- it's beautiful, and it's not owned by anyone in particular -- i haven't heard anyone do as much with it as Prince -- let alone what he can do on the guitar with that progression!

I coulda sworn I heard that Prince wrote Purple Rain around about 1980. Wendy wasn't even in the band. It may be libellous rumour tho!

No that's not true because the director said on the video commentary that out of all of the songs Prince had given him for the movie to listen to, Purple rain had not even been written yet.

i believe the story that lisa and wendy had roles in the song but they didn't write it, why in the world would prince of all people give them that much power? You heard him in the movie didn't you "i'm not playing your stupid music, now get off it!!"
