"Possessed" is Doo Doo

I am reading "Possessed" and I am glad I bought it at Amazon for 5.99 and it's not worth that much.

Alex Hahn is an ignorant dumb white man. He obviously is NOT a Prince fan and knows very little about music. I ache for the trees killed to publish this long form tabloid.

So what if Prince had lots of women and put his employees through hell?? How many superstars carry on like this everyday and no one cares?

Furthermore there was no "Rise" and "Fall" of Prince. What he meant was the rise and fall of Prince's COMMERCIAL SUCCESS. Prince made the choice not to do 50 Purple Rains and drop out of the spotlight. At least he is concerned with his art and is not solely about dollars. I already have indigestion this morning but this book has made me sick. Hahn must have gotten his feelings hurt by Prince and now has a vendetta against him.

My opinion of music is not changed and I will NOT be trashing Prince or his music behind this book.

For those who don't know don't waste your time buying this s*&^. For those who do know you know what I'm saying. If you need to buy it for research purposes or out of curiosity do NOT buy it new. It's only worth a dollar anyway.

I sincerely hope that Hahn eats a ( you fill in the blank.) That being said I'm going to listen to some Prince now!!

Alex Hahn is a Stupid White Man, is that better?

The book is full of factual inaccuracies...a casual glance at the "Albums" section at the back of the book will show the amount of typos and outright mistakes (certain album titles are incorrect, for example). He also takes the liberty of giving song writing credit to people who are not listed in the official credits (he calls it research).

Those things aside, it is always going to be difficult to write a book on someone so elusive. I've read at least four other biographies and none of them mention the fact that he was screwing every female in every band line-up. He paints a vivid piture of Prince frollicking about the Riviera with various females (UTCM co-stars) while Sussanah M. is Back in the USSofA
in her pyjamas at work with The Family, not to mention that he screwed Sussanah's sister (Wendy) and her lesbian lover (Lisa). Had me turning pages...

I mean we all knew he was doing Cat and Sheila at the same time, but Mayte and Nona Gaye...
man's a genius...

I knew someone would take offense to that and I'm going to explain why I said white man.

I pointed out that he is a white man because of the problems so many sick whites have with Blacks. For example he goes on and on about Prince's relationship with Susannah making her out to be a victim. I know it offended a lot of whites that Prince had all these white women going gaga over him. I felt like the author was personally offended by the way he wrote about their relationship. Those women knew who Prince was and chose to deal with him. They were not "victims." I also point out Hahn's whiteness because it comes through in his analysis of Prince. White in the sense of "Who does this Black man think he is acting like a star?"

It's almost as if Hahn doesn't understand why Prince is a star. And the fact that he only has given props to 1999, Sign of the TImes and Purple Rain is very white. Why? because Prince was already a star with Black people before Purple Rain. He doesn't even understand Prince's music.

Yes there are plenty of all kinds of people who diss Prince but this guy really gave me bad feelings around the issue of race.

I am not attacking all white men but I'm attacking the idea and reality of whiteness. Prince's music is for EVERYONE.

All I know is I better not see Hahn out somewhere I may have to tell him a thing or two about his glorified blog.

I meant this post as no offense to anyone. The only person I am attacking is this so-called "author."

Respectfully,
Five

didnt that guy show up on this site trying to pimp a new version of the book? lol now that is mighty white of him lol . as an african american male i can honestly say that the whole black white thing is a part of our mental make up, part of our defense mechanism does include looking too deeply into things. At 37 ( and close to a dead ringer for prince in high school) i remember a unique brand of resentment from white boys when white girls gave me play. Remember, prince was only one generation removed from the cival rights movement, morris day was actually a part of the "busing" experiment that had so many white folks in an uproar in the 70's. For my Aussie brotha i leave this, trust me dude, it's real, i felt hahn wrote with a sort of "how dare you kick it like jagger, plant and the white archetype rock god" resentment . James Brown , even Rick James to some degree never kicked it on that level, prince had to engender some resentment on some racial level. Freeze frame the look on Tom Petty's face when prince was shredding that solo, that's not a new look, that's the look of the old guard who didnt think this little black kid from minneapolis could rock with the big boys.

I wanted 2 know about the fall. Was I missing something? I had 2 do some research on Hahn after reading that book. He was hating P when he wrote the book and hating him more than ever now. LOL!!! I would love 2 c Hahn's face now that P is where he should have been all along, on top lol lol

Couldn´t have said it better myself....seriously, most people know how Mick Jagger, Picasso, Tommy Lee, Liam Gallagher of Oasis, countless Hollywood actors and other celebrities treated and still treat women, and my personal opinion is that they care much less when the artist is white. It´s considered part of the game, part of the genius, mystique or whatever, but God beware if the artist in case is black or better yet, the woman is white ...
I don´t really have a problem with the behaviour of the people I´ve just mentioned above cause it always takes two to tango but it´s just sad when people concentrate on this aspect and blow things out of proportion as soon as the persion is black, from the Middle East, Asian or whatever...
This probably wouldn´t be such a major issue if the author were European but I´m not too sure.
I read that book too, ( THANK YOU SO MUCH GIOTTO !!! ) and while reading it I had the same thoughts, especially since I can´t REALLY consider myself part of the white, European mainstream ( I´m somewhere in between, literally ) ....I can relate to that topic very well. it´s sort of cultural/racial scrutiny.
I mean, P did some nasty stuff, but I still consider him harmless in my book. The book tells more about the author´s character or personality and moral mindframe than about Prince.
Perhaps he forgot that he´s writing about Prince, not the Dala Lama..

I personally like the book because of the gossipy parts. I don't care to read Hahn's thoughts on the music, since as a lawyer, I don't think Hahn's opinion on music is anymore more important or insightful than my opinion.
I just like to read a little of the personal side of prince, the inspiration of certain songs etc.
I know some people don't like that, but to each his own. shrug

Race is ingrained in American culture, what do you expect?

Also, I just to make a distinction, in my opinion pointing out whether someone is black or white or whatever, is not an insult. Anyone who wants to refer to me as "Black" can feel free to. I recognize that it is a benign adjective and not an insult, just as "White" is an adjective and not an insult. It's part of me, just as it's part of everyone else, and it's fine to acknowledge that part. If we all recognied race classifications for the adjectives that they are, then people wouldn't get all worked up when someone calls someone white or black. The problem begins when we impute things about people BECAUSE of their race.

Sorry for the soapbox post, but had to put my $.02 out there. I will step down now.

I hear ya Redayh, I agree whole-heartedly.

But fiveorange created this thread about a book, and his opinion on it.

Yet he/she feels the need to bring the authors race into the issue, i.e. they draw the conclusion that the authors motivations and opinions in the book's are shaped by his race.

That says more about the this thick as pig-shit reader, fiveorange, than it does about the author of Possessed.
