I agree with you!!

The album has a little bit of everything, truly Prince's last commerically sucessful albums.

Though there are a few songs I can do without, it gets a 7 out of 10.

<--- Obviously, I'm in love with this album. It's in my top 5 as well. I'm not going to say why, the real question would be why not? lol It's a great album.

I've recruited at least a half dozen fans becuase of that album.

When it was first released, it was my favorite album for at least 2 years.
Of course, now I realize just how bad the rap on that album was, but it was still a great record.

I remember, I played "7" for a buddy of mine, and he's been a Prince fan since then.

Top 5, no. Top 7, maybe. Top 10, definitely. Lots of great songs; I don't care what they say.

Because so many of the org elite don't accept TonyM as a legit rapper. It mystifies me. The symbol CD is a great Prince album, completely unique, and a great album to introduce to the average Prince skeptic.

My top 5? Almost.
But the symbol album did restore some of my faith in the man after the mostly bland Diamonds and Pearls, and subpar Batman soundtrack...
D & P felt so stiff to me...he overcrafted and overproduced most of those songs, though it's hard to argue with the commercial success.
Symbol is mostly Prince playing hard and loose with a great N.P.G. lineup that he obviously had grown more comfortable with since recording D & P.
Dock it a notch for the story and dialogue, a forerunner to the even more annoying and drawn out story and dialogue of "Rainbow Children".

That album has it all, in my opinion.... funky tracks like My Name is Prince and The Max, humor (and real situations, haha) in Blue Light... romance and/or slow jams in Damn U and Sweet Baby... and just plain kick ass songs like The Continental.... *sigh*..... with the exception of Arrogance, a near perfect album..~

top 5 of the 90's maybe. Its a good album, has some clinkers, but it was an improvement over diamonds and pearls. Might be in my top 10

The Symbol album is in my Top 5 too.I love this CD.In 1992/93,I played it so much that I actually had to buy two additonal copies.I literally wore out the CD! Without question, this is Prince's best CD of the 90s (imo).

It was my favourite as a teenager so I played it out, totally. I listened to it a week ago for the first time maybe in two or three years. It's still rather swell.

Probably his most finest album of the 90's, period. I reviewed that album 2 months ago on www.amazon.com and it has became my favorite P albums of the 90's-era. It's more easier 4 me to listen 2 this all the way through than 1991's D&P also. Those Tony M raps are kinda lame though.

Top 5 (favorite Prince releases of the 90's)

1. Emancipation
2. Symbol Album
3. Diamonds & Pearls
4. Gold Experience
5. Come

I have gone back and forth on it so many times, I hate the "album" but I love a lot of the songs. The editing of whatever the interview thing was supposed to be is very distracting but any alum that has 7, And God Created Woman, Blue Light, Love 2 the 9's and Damn U (among others) has to be considered a classic.

prince is a noble "near-miss" if "masterpiece" is the standard. It is indeed an ambitious, interesting, funky album with 3 Prince classics -- "Sexy MF," "7" and "And God Created Woman". Other songs like "Morning Papers" and "Love 2 The 9's " are strong as well. But the album lags because of some self-indulgent stuff ("Arrogance," "The Flow" and "3 Chains O' Gold." Prince's attempts to blend hip-hop into his sound fail miserably, due to the wackness of Tony M, who drags down "2 The 9's" and "Sexy MF" among other tracks.

I think it is the weakest of his masterpieces. By that I mean it is ambitious and interesting in the vein of 1999, TRC, Purple Rain, and SOTT but it isn't as good. It has great songs on it but it misses where the aforemention albums don't. The production sounds generic and dated on songs like My Name is Prince and Tony M wanders into territory he shouldn't have. Tony's part was cool in The Max but I am embarassed everytime I hear him in My Name Is Prince and Sexy MF. These flaws, I believe make it more comparable to artistically lesser projects like Lovesexy, The Truth, Chaos, and Around The World In a Day.

Having said that, there are so many classic Prince songs on it, it has to be top 10 or thereabouts. Sexy MF, Morning Papers, Damn U, Sweet Baby, The Continental, The Max, Melt With U, And God Created Woman, 7, and 3 Chains of Gold are all some of my favorites. Overall, this is a better album than Batman, D&P, and possibly even Graffiti Bridge and is a definite must have.

OOps. I forgot 2 the 9's. duh

Co-Fareekin' sign!

IMHO, one of the most overappreciated Prince albums round here. Overindulgent and unispired...
