Which Version Of...

I've noticed that Diamonds And Pearls, the prince album, and Emancipation have alternate cover art.

The Diamonds And Pearls' I've looked at had: 1) Holographic blue center, and 2) Non-holographic and just blue center.

The prince albums I've looked at had: 1) Yellow Symbol, 2) Holographic Symbol, 3) Holographic tattered Symbol, and 4) The New Power Generation picture as found on the inside cover.

And the Emancipation I've looked at in record stores is orange with fists and chains with a black Symbol, but Amazon pictures an image with Prince having the word "Slave" on his face and a Symbol tattoo on his head.

Could a fellow orger tell me: 1) Why there are different versions of cover art on these albums, 2) Did Prince / prince just re-release these albums or is there a difference with the number of tracks or length/sound of the tracks, and 3) Which version of these albums should I get? I don't own these albums (though I was thinking about getting them) but don't know which one to get.

Also, isn't the Parade cover art not supposed to be upright? When I bought this, I guess the store or the machinery placed the cover upright. idk.

Not sure if it was on the cover anywhere else, but the back of the insert had that picture of him with 'slave' on his cheek.
I'll probably have a couple little sexies on the stand-by, and we don't want to upset them, do we? So you just glide by me and say...what?

I can help a little.

Diamonds and Pearls was released in the US with the Holographic cover, and released in Europe with the monochromatic blue cover. Track listings were the same. D&P did have a pretty cool promo case for the disc. It was a wooden blue/purple paisley shaped clamshell case with the disc and some costume pearls and diamonds inside:

"Symbol" was released with a gold silk-screened symbol on the outside of the jewelcase on the early pressings. Later pressings put the symbol on the booklet itself. Track listings were the same, although there is a clean promo version of this disc ("Sexy Mutha-ooooaaaahhh").
Clean discs have no Parental Advisory printed on the booklet. I have never seen a holographic "Symbol." There was also this Limited Edition version:

There is only one Emancipation cover. Amazon is probably using pre-release artwork for their site.

If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

Aren't there different variations of the Gold Experience cover?

Yes.

The original cover as shown on pre-release television appearances was gold foil. The released version is of course, 4-color press printed with no foil used.

There was also a cool limited edition gold jewel case for the Gold single:

The holographic Symbol was probably a limited edition thing then, right? I know I've looked at this version before.

This is a too damn fucking shame. It would have looked far better in proper gold than in that tacky matte yellow. Skimping on costs I guess.

So, can somebody with the prince album please post a picture of what their cover looks like? Please do not post the picture found in the gallery.
