Just discovered this great Google Groups feature -- they've archived all posts made by everyone since May 1981!!!

Check this out -- this sis the first mention of Prince ever on the internet, from the 29th of January, 1982: http://groups.google.com/...131&rnum=4

I'm sure there are lotsa other goodies we can dig up too! Love to find all the archived discussion about the name change and all that!

It's called "Usenet". It preceded the internet-as-we-know-it-now, it was originally just accessed through specific newsreader programs but a few years ago Google also included the possibility to frolic around the Usenet by using its own services.

By the way, you might also want to use the Google groups feature to find information on Prince on different newsgroups than just alt.music.prince. For instance, using the keyword "Prince" on rec.audio.pro will bring a few interesting results and so on.
