Yep, this song is hot!! The entire cd is great if you can get over the silly voice and the religious mumbo/jumbo. The music kicks ass and his voice is incredible, as always.

I'm bothered by his attitude towards women in this song, but the beat is cool.

You realize that theocratic order is; God, Man, Woman in that order of importance. I can't believe that the ladies cheer when he says that during the live version.

um... the theocratic order doesn't go from top to bottom... it goes side to side with man and woman, and God being at the top -- like a pyramid... the more intimate and closer to God that the man and woman get, the more intimate they become with each other -- a pyramid. just because the man should be the leader in the house, does not mean he is above the woman and should lord it all over her (God forbid) -- her role is just as important -- she is the foundation and the glue that holds the whole thing together -- with God at top holding the two of them together ("which no man should separate"). peace.

Prince used to be so open-minded and joyful. But when u hear
lyrics like these; i just turn off the sound, realize how stupid
and narrow-minded this man really has become and put
another cd on. Seriously, i'm not even considering paying
to see this horrible man live again. Prince isn't Prince anymore.

I don't want to hear these stupid comments about theocratic order,
all that sexist, discriminating and religious bs! hmm wacky
Welcome to the year 2004, Prince. mad

Paisley Park, If u don't like religion then why do u even bother 2 come 2 this sight? Prince is about religion now and has been about religion from the start. He is just deeper in it now in his life. It is what it is. The bible states it loud and clear. It's not a put down on women. Read the book be4 u make a lame comment about religion.

What lyrics are you refering to (specifically) and what does he say in the live version? I have never noticed any particulary sexist remarks during this song, but I really don't listen too closely to the lyrics in TRC. It's a bit too preachy for me and the narrator voice kinda freaks me out.

I just want to know exactly what he says before I make my judgement.

Thank you.

I've always interpreted it as a slight against Christianity, by saying GOD the Father, JESUS the SON, and the Holy Spirit are three different dieties alone as opposed to three manifestations of ONE GOD. I'm sure it's been debated ad nauseum in another part of the org the differences between Jehovah's Witnesses & Christians so I won't go there. But the music behind the message is good, we can agree on that, and my thoughts are subject to correction.

"There's a theocratic order", in this song, and "An accurate knowledge of Christ and The Father", in The Everlasting Now, are two of the most grating lyrics he's ever recorded, I think. Particularly annoying as they're both in great tracks (especially The Everlasting Now).....

I beg to differ. Prince was never about religion until he becamse a JW.

I've said it before and I'll say it again... there os a world of difference between spirituality and religion.

Prince hit the nail on the head with the beloved Lovesexy but sounded like he lost his head up his ass with the Rainbow Children.

This particular song, 1+1+1=3, is his defiant statement towrads God, that he doesn't believe in Jesus, or the Holy Spirit. But like Snap said... the TRUTH still stands!

The exact reason I despise Everlasting Now. It's so ham-fisted in it's message. Prince must have some serious guilt issues.
