If you're Prince and you have the freedom to record what you want, why not do a total 100% gospel album? If he did it properly, it could sell very well, and by that I mean dive head first into the project, no metaphors..just unabashed praising with a real choir backing him up. I still remember the Commodores recording Jesus is Love..man..that song still kind of gets you in the heart...some of Prince's best songs (Anna Stesia, The Ladder, I Wish U Heaven, 4 the Tears in U'r Eyes, Last December) are overtly religious...even God (which has little too much screaming in it for me, but hey..) I know Lovesexy was supposed to be the big religious album, but it can't hurt to another one..besides, these songs best sing alongs in concert (can't u feel the love?)

First of all, Prince couldn't do a proper gospel album... not the way I know gospel, anyhow.

Let's clear the air and get one thing straight... the beloved Lovesexy WAS NOT, and NEVER WILL BE, a religious album. There is a world of difference between spirituality and religion.

The only... I repeat ONLY, "overtly religious" album he did was The Rainbow Children. Anna Stesia, God, 4 The Tears In Your Eyes, The Ladder, I Wish U Heaven... any song about spirituality before 1998, was just that... SPIRITUAL.

Now that he has discovered "religion" I think he's smart to just keep it to himself. He couldn't do a proper gospel album, even if he wanted to.

not sure I want to hear him attempt gospel. he's attempted some other things and not done so well. and it wouldn't be a straight on gospel album either. the closest he got to gospel slighly was lovesexy. i mean he was at the pulpit saying YES and all, but traditional gospel it was not.

can he even do gospel as a JW?

His more recent songs have leaned more toward religious (read: exclusive to one faith) than spiritual.


And yes, one CAN have spirituality without religion, or even religion without spirituality. They are not one and the same.

All-Out gospal albums don't address the serious issues of digital gardens, banished ones, coming butterfies straight on skin, little-talk-johnies, akashic records, and renegade vaginas.

Prince has done enough to test our loyalty to him. Do we really want to be tormented by more Gospel? No. I want nasty , funky, disqusting lyrics and some fat ass synth thrown in the mix.
