Would anyone NOT see the "Man" if/when.....he never plays his classics again?! I understand where he's coming from with "moving on by not playing old stuff", but would he still draw the crowds if he didn't play his old stuff? As long as Prince continues to grow musically with his new AWESOME tunes, why would playing the old tunes be something holding him back?

Paul McCartney never stopped playing his classic songs but continued to crank out new tunes. His popularity is still high and concert tours sell outs.

OK, I'm comparing apples and a Studebaker, but you get the drift.

Fuck the crowds. I can't wait till Prince comes to Boston with a hits-free tour. One Nite Alone skipped us, so I will be salivating like a rabid Doberman.

Aftershows are the best, and he doesn't usually play too many classics then -- just jams and jams until the dawn. Too cool.

I love so most of his music - period, hits or no. I'd pay to see him anytime, anywhere...

The best tours I've seen have been the Gold tour and the ONA - both of which comprises heavily of music that is was not commercially a hit.

But, I also accept that if Prince played only the music the fans wanted, he would be playing to a very empty hall.

The majority of people who go to concerts are not the die-hards, us, they are casual fans, people who own the best of's and maybe one or two of the big albums, or people who were into Prince's music when he was fresh and at his commercial peak.

So I expect that this paying majority come to hear the songs they know.

I just like it when there is more of a balance, ONA tour was fantastic, really, really great - this Musicology Tour looks pretty mediocre.

If he tours over here, with the kind of setlists that have occured so far, it will not be a highlight of my Prince concert experiences, I know this - but what can you do, maybe the next tour will be full of obscure album tracks.

Hell, a hits-free tour could include many cuts from Prince and Controversy, and nearly everything from Parade, with the exception of Kiss & Mountains. Everything from ATWIAD, with the exception of Raspberry Beret & Pop Life. A significant portion of SOTT weren't "hits," but I would still like to hear them. What about a little bit from "The Truth." There's still plenty in the catalogue.


But, I do get your point.

(Hey FYI, we did get a little bit of "Freaks on This Side," at one of the Musicology shows I attended. I was amused.
