P obviously viewed "Automatic" as a single, like u said, going so far as to do a video. A great one, I might add. Who knows why it didn't get the push like say "Let's Pretend We're Married" did in 83. Funny thing about that was there was no video for that, even though it was released as a single. Plans apparently got switched around.

I don't think Warners knew how to promote this album. They pushed 1999 and LRC, then Delirious found a little airplay.

I think Prince's long term goal was to release Automatic and LPWM as singles, since he shot videos for both, had to be around the same time the 1999 and LRC videos were filmed.

Prince was ahead of his time, even more so back in the 80's... Warners didn't know what to do with a double album.

It was my favorite song off the album at the time -- should've released it worldwide.

All four videos from that album ("1999," "Little Red Corvette," "Let's Pretend We're married," and "Automatic") were shot on that same soundstage. Probably even on the same day...I love them all, but there really isn't all that much to them. But I wonder why there was no "Delirious" video? It was a big hit (US top 10) and followed the video successes of "1999" and "LRC." Maybe he was too busy working on Purple Rain to shoot a video for "Delirious" by the time it was released.
