Joni Mitchell

I read recently that Prince attended a Joni Mitchell concert in Minneapolis in 68. Does anybody have any info on this? Where it was in Minneapolis, if or who she was performing with, etc?

Where did you read this?

Thinking about this, I'm sure I've read something from Joni Mitchell saying she believes she recalls seeing Prince at an early age attending a concert.

Check this out - from Interview magazine, April 1991, by Dimitri Ehrlich

DE: Prince always cites you as a major inspiration. What do you think he assimilated from your music?

Joni Mitchell: Well, Prince has assimilated some of my harmony, which, because it comes out of my guitar tunings, is peculiar. A lot of times my chords depict complex emotions— Joni's weird chords. Prince saw me play when he was very young in Minneapolis, and I remember seeing him in the front row, because his eyes are so unusual. You know, they're, like, Egyptian.

DE: It's amazing that you would remember someone from the audience. You must have seen so many faces.

JM: Yeah, but I remember I played a lot to him because his eyes were so unusual. Every time the light would spill down there, and he'd kind of hide inside his coat and look up at me.

Yeah, I've just found it ... thanks.

That's the interview I remember.

I don't know of anytime that Prince has corroborated this story.

According to this database:

http://www.jonimitchell.c...ances.html

her earliest perfromance in his hometown was when she played Minneapolis Auditorium Minneapolis on the 19th August, 1979

She did a performance in St. Paul in 1974... I don't think Joni ever said it was in the '60's.
