Do any of you NOT buy unofficial material out of principle? A while back Prince reminded everyone about the ways of the Pharoah, which seemed to mean, you followed them if you bought and kept "unofficial" material.
Do any of you refuse to buy, or even listen to, bootleg material because Prince has made it clear that he doesn't want you to have it?

I have a mind of my own. I like Prince but I don't worship him. If I want a bootleg, I will buy it. Andy is a four letter word.

Since that email, I have seen the light. I only steal officially released CDs. If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

I have heard
I have been enlightened I have sought I have bought I have traded I have refused sold goods based on principle Personally, I think if he's going to make this music and pass it out to whom ever, he should expect it to get out there. It's not like we're talking about you or me...If Prince handed you a CD of great tunes no ones heard yet...would you share it with your friends? Let them hear it? I think he should switch gears and embrace those of us the see the brillaince of his work. The casual fan has no clue as to the entire world. They see him for the exterior brilliance. Fans like most of us here see the multitude of layers of genius. One of the things I like about Bjork is that if you are a true fan, there are plenty of resources to get her stuff. She even lists them on her site. She releases everything lovingly. All of her releases come in special packaging...I believe she does this for the real fans. I am not sure if she has a lot of unreleased material/outtakes...but I know she has many live boots floating about. Out of respect for Prince, I don't buy other people's releases of his music; though, I've heard most of what's circulating out there; hoping someday he'll look into some more Crystal Balls.

I got mostly all of his bootlegs off the internet (why should you pay if you can get it for free?)

i never bought a boot (except for my very first one a while ago)
But the rest were all traded to me....and it just made me fall in love with Prince even more. I saw him in full form, his music even more appreciated, even to my brother who thought they were great (he loves "All My Dreams"). Straight Jacket Funk Affair
Album plays and love for vinyl records.

Yeah right! We all want a big hit again because
we want to relive the Hysteria & Pandemonium we experienced when Purple Rain was Hot. Actually, he doesn't care if it happens again or not.

the only two things didn't / don't do out of principle are:
* buy the 'best of prince' cd * Download or copy music that's not in my collection * Download or copy music available in recordstores as for boots: although i can see his point, i do buy them cause the stuff that's on there is somethimes to great to pass up. (small clubs 4 example) He should release these things himself and there would be no need for boots. I would venture to guess that a great deal of the boots out there, Prince leaked himself.
This is not a statement of fact. This is opinion. "White people like Wayne Brady because he makes Byrant Gumbel look like Malcom X" - Negrodamus

This is not a statement of fact. This is opinion. Songs, yes -- some at least. But bootlegs? Not. Prince didn't compile them CDs, cassettes, etc. and then let others make money off of them for themselves.

I agree with above posts, a lot of this stuff just can't get out without a lil help from the inside. If not Prince, then someone whom he trusts enough to see the stuff that we can get from any number of sources. There are many copies of live performances, both visual & audio, out there that would not have made it into the hands of the fans without that help. I know that music is the "child" of the musician, but when you keep those children locked up all the time "They turn out like me" Let them free and enjoy the sucess they bring to you.
