They're worse than Tony M.? "I would say that Prince's top thirty percent is great. Of that thirty percent, I'll bet the public has heard twenty percent of it." - Susan Rogers, "Hunting for Prince's Vault", BBC, 2015

I remember seeing Prince say something about wanting to write and perform songs that particular members in The Revolution weren't apt enuff to play; therefore, he surrounded himself with better skilled musicians. Bobbt Z --> Sheila E = huge improvement. Notice that he did keep Matt Fink -- fastest fingers in the Western hemisphere.

So tell me. What was the real reason he disbanded the Revolution? And, why then, did he start the New Power Generation?

More importantly then the cold, stiff sound of the crusty revolution, y did prince make a slimmer line NPG around mid 1993 (after the act 1/2 tour)....
.....he got rid of Tony M, Levi seacer, Damon Dickson (great dancing on "Delirious/willing and able" on the "diamonds and pearls" tour) and Kirky J (4 a while, but he is on "Emancipation" throughout though I think?).....the NPG sucked after that! Prince got a shitty haircut, riducule everywhere and y didn't he fire poncy Tommy Barbarella? Levi especially was cool.....good producer/ rhythm guitarist and lest we forget.....good bassist on sign of the times, lovesexy and nude tour too.....

So tell me. What was the real reason he disbanded the Revolution? And, why then, did he start the New Power Generation? There are many other threads that have answered this question, truthfully and honestly. Lovesexy Funkateer

So could you please post a link? Here's one: http://www.housequake.com...post387004 The post underneath the first answer, by Bigjim99, is a little more accurate, although the one by FunkyChristo is not far off, it has some mistakes. 2.- During the last year Prince had been working in material 4 a return 2 a solo career, he didn't think The Revolution was able to experiment with the style of the new songs he was writing. Just listen 2 Crystal Ball and Sign Of The Times.
Well, I wasn't "waaaay off base" then, was I? I'd be interested in knowing how the list of reasons on the housequake site are any better at stopping rumours than our reasons here in this thread? No one seems to be citing their sources -- it's all hearsay until then.

think that Prince wanted to get back to his funky side and he wanted to show the world that he wasn't just Mr. Purple Rain... "A united state of mind will never be divided
The real definition of unity is 1 People can slam their door, disagree and fight it But how U gonna love the Father but not love the Son? United States of Division"

After the band fell apart, he took a different musical route and created that music. I don't see how it had to do with the band not being able to keep up with him... that doesn't make any sense. So I guess you just answered my question. Prince then started the New Power Generation as a band going down a different musical route than the path the Revolution took, right?

He had also given too much creative control for Wendy & Lisa and prolly wanted to take full responsibility of his creative career again as well. NPG came about 4 years later.
I think he just thought he looked cool with the "New Power Generation" added after his name. Altough now in retrospect...

So I guess you just answered my question. Prince then started the New Power Generation as a band going down a different musical route than the path the Revolution took, right? No. I said the Revolution COULD play anything he wanted. No need to recruit new people, other than the fact that the band had run it's course and he had no choice, but to hire new musicians. As far as I'm concerned the Lovesexy band was the original NPG, but he never called them by that name. He didn't officially start using it until 1991. Are you trying to tell me, that the 1991 NPG line-up was a better band, and could musically keep up with him, better than the Revolution? Oh... you would sadly be mistaken if you thought that.
