Does the song make the video or the video make the song?

(And yes I know you have to have a song first before you make a music video -- that's not what I mean).

I just saw the video for "Musicology" again -- hadn't seen it in a month or so -- it's nice, ain't it? -- but I don't really like the song much, tho the video really gets me in the mood -- so I was wondering, "Does the song make the video or the video make the song?" Please use examples of Prince videos to back up your answer. Peace.

A good video can make you like a song more... like "Thieves in the Temple" - it's a good song but seeing P in them drawz made me love that shit lol

But a bad video can put a damper on a song you like... "Come On" is a good example of that. As much as I like the song there's an air of blaaaah surrounding it b/c I can't get that horrible vid out of my head sad

Bottom line: it goes both ways smile A good vid gives a song another life, makes sense to expand your liking of it...

In general, you can sell any song commercially if it has a good video. That nearly always works.

In a real musician's case, such as Prince's - or earlier on say, in the early 70s/80s - it was the music that sold itself a video wasn't even necessary.

TGRES is another good example of a song made better by the vid. The song is cool but memories of the video in my head enhance it x10 - that video is SO sexy horny
