Black album Well, On wednesday i was working at the night club helping out, and my boss walks in and hands me the black album, i was like "OMG" lol
Any 2 cut a long story short, i went home listened 2 it and i wasn't blown away, which i thought i would, this album was nothing i expected, 2 me its not 2 great, sum kool songs, but it reminds me a lot of the batman album which i dig alot, but this im not 2 sure about. I heard a live version of " 2 nigs united 4 west compton " and i was taken back it was amazing, but when i heard the CD version, i was disappointed again, ok 4 free i shouldn't be moaning, but i was expecting a lot more! It's so weird to read an opinion of someone the same age as the album their talking about.

The Black Album is actually going to be 17 years old here pretty quick.
At first read I thought it was 1989 or something. Funny to hear people "discovering" things we've had for years and years. I love this album! Lovesexy Funkateer

I think, in time, you will love this LP.
I heard it first in 1992, and I remember thinking it was a very dis-jointed, uneven album, with the only stand-out tracks being the first 2 on the LP. Now, I regard it as one of my top 5 Prince albums, at times, it's been #1, I love it, I love it.

It's the context of the album that made it great.
U see , Prince had release SOTT which was a sprawling 2 CD affair covering many musical genres. The production wasn't great, the sound was polished and smooth. THe black album was anything but SOTT. It was gritty, unpolished, and void of alot of melody--almost like a demo album. I mean Bob George is nothing but a riff with some sound effects and morbid dialogue--You'd NEVER find BG on SOTT. As a followup to SOTT and an album released just before LoveSExy (well, released on the black marcket anyhow), it was great becuase of it's context. If you'd dropped the Black album just after Dirty Mind or Contreversy it would have been much better recieved. If you where to drop it now, everyone would be scratching their heads.

Forever In My Life is pretty stripped down, although I get your point about how dark the song. I always thought the original Wally might have been a bit Bob George-esque.

I never really thought it was amazing. Like someone else said, it was the context of the album.
Mind you, Superfunkycalifragisexi is still one of my favourite songs. Plus 'Rockhard in a funky place' is pretty awesome, and 'Bob George' is essential Prince. The rest I can do without. Just give the album time. Green virgin teenager, or filthy rich yuppy. Pussy cat pussy cat, where for out thou puppy

i know this is sum orgers fav prince album, i wouldnt go that far but i think its got some great tracks le grind, cindy c, dead on it, superfunkicalifragisexy, and rockhard in a funky place being the pick of the bunch, im sure eric leeds deserved more credit 4 the horns on that one,
also great humour throughout the album, what was that " gold ring size of a mouse" line superb. tip - u need to rip it onto pc and double the volume and add bass then burn it back onto cd or mp3 to get the full potential of it.. if u know how 2 do that shit, that is.....peace \o/\o/ ° The Breakdown = Best Prince song for 20 years

But...I love that album Errm, no seriously - didn't you like LeGrind? Cindy C? Bob George? Rockhard in a Funky Place? I mean, for me TBA whoops Batman's tight latex covered ass, so much more non-commercially bound funk I just love it... Ah well, I guess u allowed ur own opinion too

Have you listened to it 'tween the phones, yet?
I love this album. And I think Le Grind is the best non-live, live track by Prince!
