What do you think of Prince's choices... ...for the The Vault CD?
I've always thought this was Prince's strangest, weakest release. Whilst it's not the worst selection of songs from The Vault, it's also nothing near his best. Where did the pride in his art go? It's all rather half-hearted, and he appears entirely disinterested to me. In retrospect, I think he should have simply GROWN UP and pulled together a much better effort. A truly classic selection from The Vault would have been the perfect sign off to the record company he had grown to despise. It would almost be like saying, here's what I used to do in my private time... DISC 1 Purple Music #2 Extra Loveable Computer Blue (Sunset Sound 'hallway speech' version) #2 Electric Intercourse Possessed G Spot (Prince vocal) #1 Feel U Up Irresistible Bitch Something In The Water (Does Not Compute) [demo] Do Yourself A Favour All Day, All Night The Dance Electric DISC 2 Joy In Repitition #1 In A Large Room With No Light Crucial #1 Splash Wonderful Ass Neon Telephone Movie Star Data Bank #1 Girl O My Dreams #1 Can't Stop This Feeling I Got #1 We Can Funk #1 Witness 4 The Prosecution (unfinished Dream Factory version) #1 Rebirth Of The Flesh The Question Of U instrumental (orchestral parts 'one' and 'two' joined together as a single track) Empty Room #2 Old Friends 4 Sale #1 (segued into...) All My Dreams DISC 3 Crystal Ball #1 The Line God Is Alive The Voice Love...Thy Will Be Done The Grand Progression I Can't Love U Anymore I Hear Your Voice Open Book Moonbeam Levels Miss You Leaving For New York Desire Power Fantastic (instrumental intro plus officially released track joined together)

Whether the tracks were "re-worked" or some of his old stuff, I don't think that Warner's ever got a clue to his genius. Yes, Prince can be pompous at times when it comes to his music, but I think that the selections above only demonstrated that it was over with Warner's. Why should he give his best stuff to them? They had already lost faith in him, so why should he bother to generate anything new for them? "A united state of mind will never be divided
The real definition of unity is 1 People can slam their door, disagree and fight it But how U gonna love the Father but not love the Son? United States of Division"

Add "Heaven" and "Turn It Up" and it would be almost perfect. Andy is a four letter word.

I thought that was part of the reasoning behind The Black Album. We known Prince doesn't like to go back on himself (at least not admittiting as much to himself). Come on, Prince has always been about NOW, what's happening NOW - His only archive release, Crystal Ball, kind of reflects that, it is very heavy on the period (yet ofcourse acknowledging his majority of fan's desire for material for his pre-1987 work). Prince has showed no sign of being capable as a human being of accepting his past, and enjoyiong it for what it was.
