Loveleft, Loveright & The Lubricated Lady...

I was so close to picking up the single that these two b-sides are on..(i think it's new power generation)...but I wasn't sure whether they were worth it.

anybody care to comment on these two tracks? any good, etc?

also, I'm very tempted to pick up 1999 the new master but i've heard it's some of the worst stuff he's put out...but i am becoming somewhat of a completist and I find that I enjoy much of the stuff that many orgers say they "hate".

so....opinions please!

The New Power Generation CD-Single is one of my favorites. "Loveleft, Loveright", "The Lubricated Lady", and "Get Off" (Not Gett Off from D & P!) are all kind of one song, and very catchy at that. Unless it's rediculous money, I'd grab it. The 1999 remasters are good for a buck or so..

you know, these b-sides aren't going to change the world anytime soon, but i think they're awfully interesting and maybe even just a weee bit overlooked as far as prince's b-sides are concerned. i like that the tracks are all interwoven, and that they have kind of a sketchbook quality to them, as if they're embryonic versions of songs that would come later (and YEAH, you can hear little bits of "gett off" in "get off" if ya listen closely).

i've had this single since it first came out, but for years i've only had it on cassingle, so i didn't listen to it all that much until recently, when i found a used copy at my local wrecka stow for 1.99 (score!). if you can find this single cheep, there's no reason not to get it.

in my opinion this has to be my favorite Maxi Single set. I liked NPG remix.

Loverleft Loverright is TIGHT! That's my cut!

Get Off & Lubricated Lady are the same song. They are pretty cool too. They sound kinda like a rock version of NPG with a faint NPG beat to it. Its nice not that nad. Lubricated Lady is just an instrumental following of the song..nothing really different.

Lover Left...is a totally different song though. It has a sparse drum pattern and tamborine through the song followed by some nice bass. Prince vocals are dark they way he sounds in We Can Funk. The lyrics are funny, and the song is very underrated and funky. I really love this song.

'Loveleft, Loveright' is actually better than 90% of the actual Graffiti Bridge album.

I'm not too keen on 'Get Off' though.

Ok, anx...chill out now....

I bought both the NPG single and The New Master and I am satisfied with both.

There are too many useless mixes on TNM, but the original "New Master" version I thought was a really good update of the song and my girlfriend thought so too. The only part we didn't like was the "this is the pourty of the century" sample which we both thought sounded wack. Other than that, good version with nice Latin section at the end....but of course, not as good as the original. But who expected that anyway?

I don't really consider them "B-Sides". I consider them as continued versions of "New Power Generation".....more like "Part II" or "Part III".

I was disappointed with the 12 Inch.

Loveleft, loveright is really great. Has that I wanna melt with u feel to it only more edgy. One of my favourite B-sides along with Violet the Organ Grinder. I actually don't remember how the lubricated lady goes and Get off is very stuttery disk scratching business, not great.
The new master is the worst thing ever, buy the best of Adam Ant or Wham instead.

I think all those songs mentioned above are absolutely horrible and for completists only.
Of course it´s all a matter of personla taste but I think that Loveleft, Loveright , Get Off, and the Lubricated Lady are P´s most horrible officially released songs to date...on par with I Like Funky Music and Jughead...no, Jughead is probably better...seriously, these are , IMHO, the most unlistenable songs/tracks he ever created. It´s strange that nobody mentioned these before. As with most Prince penned songs, there are bits and pieces I like, especially that Latin beat in one of those 1999 New Master versions, but I think that wasn´t done by Prince, but anyway, these songs are scary.....

I totally agree with this. There's nothing revolutionary here, but it's interesting to hear different aspects of the song expanded upon. Prince's great songs have enough in them to make five average to weak songs out of them. Now when I listen to New Power Generation I can actually hear "Love to the left of me love to the right," and I wouldn't have noticed that unless I had heard this maxi single.

And what you say about Get Off is true too. It's like he's writing Gett Off with this song. Who would have guessed that Gett Off was acutally derived indirectly from New Power Generation? It's interesting to see the creative process at work, even if these remixes aren't the best songs ever.

I've recently re-discovered Get Off and dig it. It would have fit perfectly on the Batman album. It has the same vibe and feel as Electric Chair. The short guitar bursts mixed way back make it one of those hidden gems of a b-side.

Crank that bitch up!
