I heard that Boy george asked P out back in p's leather and lace days
and P denied lol i think thats the reason why boy george has always been a little bitter lol he could get up in that pretty man lol whoaaaaa! that woulda been wierd if prince hadn't turned him down ahaha!
Somehow I don't think that even if P. was into guys, Boy George would be the type he'd go for. [This message was edited Sat Aug 21 13:05:30 2004 by meow85] "A Watcher scoffs at gravity!"

clearing up a few things (maybe...)
1. Maybe I'm hallucinating, but I seem to recall a quick camera cut away to Richards during Prince's "While My Guitar" appearance, and the look on Keith's face couldn't possibly be mistaken for any kind of hatred and disgust. AWE, maybe. TOTAL RESPECT...at least it appeared that way. 2. The Pink thing, as someone alluded to, centers around last year's Entertainment Weekly fall music preview, when EW interviewed Outkast, Dave Matthews and Pink and Pink said something along the lines of not really having followed Prince's career (she never said she HATED him), and Andre 3000 made the comment about Pink needing to go to "Prince School" or whatever. I think Anxiety is right when he says that it's not really fashionable to hate Prince right now, though I kind of wince at the thought of people--even other musicians--liking him just because the current pop culture mandates it when there are some of us here who have suffered through some ridiculous shit over the years to remain Prince fans! BinaryJustin is also correct about the Richards/Clapton watch bet thingamajig. And I can't remember all the specifics either. But Keef did say that Prince was contrived, and compared him to The Monkees. This was at some point in the '80s. In the ensuing years I don't know if Keef changed his tune prior to the RRHOF famous geetar solo or not, but I know that Keith Richards would NOT have mentioned Prince during the ZZ Top induction if he wasn't genuinely impressed. Keith likes Prince.Keith just gives people a hard time.He felt that Prince wasted his talent being a "pop artist" and into his looks and such and not pushing and pushing the envelope like he did when he was younger. Keith had very high expectations of Prince. And I remember reading stuff about Keith thinking that a lot of Black artists were squandering their talents and hold on music by just being happy being commercial. In a way,I agree with him. Look at where we are today. While there are some truly vital artists out there ,the majority of our msuic now is crap. And as bad as Prince is,I think he could have gone even further if he wasn't a handsome dude.I think his ego,his face, and women have kept him from being all he can be. Although,we haven't heard everything in his vault. He may have some stuff in there to kill that argument. It may be that hit chasinga nd skirt chasing didn't keep him from creating even more great art,but maybe it kept him from trying to release it.
Anyway,Prince is one of the greatest of all time .I just feel like Keith felt that he shouldn't have indulged in the pop world so much.It has distracted him from the pursuit of musical purity from time to time. "I'm a pig..so,magic elixir I swill"

I think that Keith Richards and Eric Clapton had a bet over a Cartier watch as to whether or not Prince would fail at something or other. I can't remember the specifics. He also passed comment when Mick Jagger wanted to bill a show as "Mick Jagger & The Rolling Stones". Richards said something like: "We're not Prince & the fucking Revolution". I wonder what Keith thought of Prince's performance at the RRHOF then, because he was also present at that event. noone could deny prince that night he tow it up that night. George harrison's son was looking all over for prince so he could hold his d---

I fail to see how that's any different than any other recording artist, White, Black, Red or Yellow. What's that about? I can't remember ol' boys name, but the former lead singer of The Smiths can't stand Prince. I seem to remember an interview he gave referring to P as overrated and unnecessary.

Now that I think of it didn't Eminem say something about Prince changing his name into a symbol in one of his songs? But i don't think that neccessarily means he hates him. THough most of the time when he puts people in his raps it's to diss them.

Anxiety said: I think anymore, it's severely unfashionable to dislike or "hate" Prince. I know Boy George used to take the piss out of him regularly, but if ya listen to a Boy George album like "The Martyr Mantras" (is that what it's called? the one with "Generations of Love" on it), Prince is all over it, left and right. I think even artists that Prince publicly disrespects today, like Foo Fighters, probably laugh it off and still consider him a genius, albeit crotchety and in his own world.
When George was making the video for Move Away...Prince was in the same building making Kiss. Boy George was very jealous that Prince was much more talented than him. THen again George is talented, however the drugs made him VERY untalented for a while there. Martyr Mantras...one of my absolute favorites. It's a shame he did not stay with this sound. SPiritual, electronic and back to form lyricwise. IMO...it's the best he ever did inculding his run with Culture Club. However, I did not hear Prince what-so-ever on this album. In fact it's one of those that was...and sorta still is way ahead soundwise. Quite brilliant. I think if there was a period where George sounded like Prince...that would be High Hat, which was very R&B and only did chart movement on the R&B charts. But then again, it was more eurohouse than anything. Christian Zombie Vampires

Trent Reznor had made clear (in 1995?) that he wasn't happy with Prince. It kind of irked me in a way, because he gave "creative insperation" to him on the first NIN album. In that interview, he started to elaborate on his feelings, but was quickly stifelled by his promoter (or manager?) at the time.
To this day, as a huge NIN fan, i still wonder what that bitterness was all about. interesting topic! "Whatever skin we're in

Eminem is a fan... His lyrics just states how long he's been writing..."suspenseful with a pencil ever since Prince turned himself into a symbol" It's just a namecheck, not a diss. Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.

I once read that Morrissey, when asked about what he thought of the likes of Prince and Madonna, he said that what they do wasn't real music, it's crap....
Not a direct quote, but I'm pretty sure he said something very much along those lines about them in the 80's.

I don't know about the comments you maid, but I do remember reading a Morrissey response about a Maddona question. It was noted by the interviewer that Morriseey fans shower him with an extreme amount of love and admiration, even more so than the likes of Maddona fans. Morrrissey replied (and this isn't verbatim but the sprit of what he said) : "I think there are a lot of poeple who confide in my lyrics and songs and take it very personal. They see a connection with me in that respect and feel close to me. I can't picture a Maddona fans giving her flowers and hugging her." Something to that affect.
