According to Billboard, 5 is correct.
However, Radio and Records ranked the song, "Purple Rain" #1 for a single week; it peaked at #2 on Billboard. "Diamonds and Pearls" the song hit #1 in some countries. "Last December" hit #1 in Japan. "Most Beautiful Girl" hit #1 in several countries. | |

Depends on which chart (and like somebody else said, which country). On the US Billboard R&B chart, he's had 8 number 1's:
I Wanna Be Your Lover (2 weeks) When Doves Cry (8 weeks) Let's Go Crazy (1 week) Kiss (4 weeks) Sign O the Times (3 weeks) Batdance (1 week) Thieves in the Temple (1 week) Diamonds and Pearls (1 week) He's also one of the top 20 R&B artists of all time. You mean Batdance!! I thought 7 hit #1 as well?? Yep, "Batdance" rose up the charts because of all the hype over the very first Batman movie. Don't get me wrong, the song has some great funky moments, not to mention an awesome guitar solo, but its #1 chart position was all because of the hype. If it makes u feel better bruce the boss has never had any #1 singles to date and one of the reason being prince jumped over him to become #1 i dont remeber which prince song made that happen!! I didn't know that. I'm not trying to disrespect Prince, if that's what you're getting at, but it kind of seemed weird to me that some of his best work never made it to #1. And you telling me that Springstein never had a #1 hit to date really amazes me. I mean, someone who is as well known as him? The industry can be quite baffling sometimes. Did you know that Hendrix was only a 1-hit wonder? And with All Along The Watchtower too? I mean, Purple Haze or Foxey Lady never made it to #1? This proves the industry is whacked. | |
