If he'd stop releasing weak songs as singles! Cinnamon Girl was the obvious follow-up.

the thing here its not the people since there is no retail single the chart position is decided by radio airplay only so the hot 100 chart you see these days is basically made up with whats popular with radio programmers..so the charts these days don't really reflect whats popular with the public at all..which is a shame because singles chart watching USED to be fun...

no....please don't release CG...that would be embarrasing.....he needs to release either:
Reflection or A Millions Days....CG is a very weak song, it's only a step or 2 above LOTP

no it wouldn't. hasn't anyone else noticed there isn't a strong song to be found anywhere on the album? or is it just me that's noticed.

if I was the man in your life is my favourite, but even that doesn't work without the Marrying Kind preceding it.

i disagree.....every person i show Reflection to, they like it. and these are not big prince fans, casual top 40 fans at best.

Reflection would have ZERO and i mean ZERO shot of being a successful single

they have been playing Cinnamon Girl for 3 months straight here in Chicago on Wxrt and it sounds great..and the people must be calling for it because they keep playing it and Prince usually doesnt fit this stations Triple A fomat

Prince don't fit a format, and it really does'nt matter bcuz most of P's ballads get overlooked.

Beleive it or not ..I think Call My Name was the best choice of the second single as far as potentailly getting a hit. Where does his biggest support lie right now in the radio market? Urban and Urban AC (where it's holding strong at #2) Call My Name's Hot 100 run is due almost entirely to these two makets.

Other choices for singles as mentioned here, Reflection and Dear Mr Man (all though great songs) would get NO R&B airplay whatsoever and they are not the type of songs Top 40 will pick up on. For Prince to get back on Top 40 radio he will need a fluff song with a killer hook that the 13-25 crowd would get into . Its sad but true.

Cinnamon Girl , although not a fav on here, probably has the best chance of hitting on non-urban radio and if promoted to Triple A and Pop radio could take off. (Cinnamon Girl has been playing in Chiacgo's AAA station for months). The Marrying Kind and If Eye Was The Man.... also fall in this category

Call my name is a run-off-the-mill song, that Prince probably wrote in his sleep. Not bad at all, but nothing exciting, nothing special.

Really makes me wonder why Sony chose this as a single - or did Prince do this.

Maybe their minds are easy - "what was Prince's last great hit?" "The most beautiful girl in the world..." - "Well, then, then let's release a slow jam" "Call my name, it is, then, Joey?" "Yeah, dude,"...

I think the albums's full of strong songs, just no hit pop songs. Nothing on this album would've caught on at pop radio without a remix. But it' been a long time since pop radio traded in "strong songs"

Call My Name, for my money, ranks up there in the top 10 Prince ballads of all time, but that's not really relevant here...

I think what most people are overlooking, is that given Prince claims every night to sold-out audiences that, "We hate the radio", he's pretty much ensuring he'll never have a hit single, due to the airplay single requirements listed earlier in this post. In fact, I'd say it's a miracle it's charted at all.

Hey, it hardly matters though. The people have spoken at the shows. Jam of the Year...
