What the hell happened with Emancipation??!!

This is a question i've been asking since the so called 'Jam Of The Year' [b]world tour[b] finished. I know EMI America finished but other artists still release on Capital.

The entire project was a farce! i remember going into HMV in Leeds to buy the first single, even though i wasn't that keen but i wanted to show my suport. The single hadn't come out but i found the album for £18.00! This was a smart buy as after the single came out the price went up by £5.00.

All seemed wellish despite the usual TV spot cancelations and the strange denial of his childs death. Holy River came out (should of done way better) then ...nothing.

I read that Capital had gone bust but artist like 'Radiohead' still released albums in the US in '97 and still do today?

Was P just dropped?

According to Prince, Emancipation had at least 18 singles on it...

Record company woes & the album's failure to get the commercial reception he anticipated must have discouraged Prince and dampened his enthusiasm for the "album he was born to make."

Holy River was made available for as a cassette single with "Welcome 2 the Dawn" acoustic as its B-Side. I have nearly 20 copies of that tape in storage.

Emancipation is now selling in stores for less than $8.

Good Aftenoon Everybody, In a nutshell... Emancipation lost steam because of the obvious reason.... EMI folded up. LIL MAN had plans to release 18 singles from this 3-CD set. He had a well-planned and thought out promotional strategy...REALLY HE DID(LOL). It was very refreshing to see him make the promotional rounds. Very unfortunate for him EMI folded up.
