Goodbye

Does anyone else really like, and I mean REALLY LIKE the song Goodbye on the Crystal ball ?
To me it is as pure as Pink cashmere or... underneath the cream...
"open your heart, open your mind
A train is leaving all day..."

A beautiful, moving, sad, melodic, wonderfully written and heartfelt song. It is this kind of song that I sometimes wish everyone could hear.

I love the song, but I haven't listened to it in a while.

The very first time I really really listened to the lyrics, was when I had just stepped into the car after saying goodbye to my Grandmother who was dying. She died that night after saying goodbye.
So after that day I have not been able to listen to the song, without keeping my eyes dry.

Then the last time I heard it was last June 2001 in MPLS, as a last song of the Celebration. It was such an intense week, and I had met some1 very special. And as I walked out of the room, I looked over my shoulder one more time, and looked at him. It was so painful to leave!!! But I was also happy that I now remember a better goodbye, than that definate one in 1999... smile

But I am definately one of the people who loves the song.

"Goodbye" is a sweet lullaby and does not seem to follow the "Adore" straight-jacket Prince seems to strangle some of his ballads with. Compare "Adore" to things like "Scandalous" and "Insatiable" and you get the picture.
"Goodbye" is another kind of song. Sweet.

I am pleased to see someone devote a thread to this song! It rarely gets a mention but when you take the time to listen to it, you realise it's so perfectly crafted!! Lyrics which mean a great deal and a beautiful melody (I just love the stop/start affect during the chorus...) Now how about a thread for "Condition of The Heart" or has that already been discussed??

Definitely one of my favorites of his. I was kinda breaking up with a girl when this song came out. I listened to it constantly during the breakup and it made me so sad. The good kind of sad, of course!

One of the best breakup songs, in a world full of breakup songs. I understand why it was left off of Emancipation, though. Doesn't fit in with the love theme the other ballads had from that era.

Everybody's got a story to tell, this is mine about this song, very personal. A very good child hood friend of mind got shot in a moving car with a shot gun by a guy wanting to fight him over a girl. He survived ,this left him paralyzed from the neck down.....This friend started liking Prince because of me, even saw his first Concert thru me 93' act one tour ,loved it. A year after the Concert this happened, I saw him at the Hospital I broke down could not bear to see him like that anymore needless to say he did not want to go on either. He stayed alive for A year then gave up didn't eat no medicine he died 94' at the age of 24. At the funeral He requested "Sometimes it snows in April" his mother told me that he wanted me to know he wanted the song played for me!!!!! you could not imagine what that did to me.....So now when ever I hear "Goodbye" I think of my Friend.....

Never say the words there gone, cause they'll come back.....

No, I don't really liked that song so much. Of course it is a beautiful song musically seen, but no... I didn't liked that "GoodBye".

wow. i just got into this song 3 days ago, after some orger on some post or other mentioned it. i'd dismissed it, overlooked it in the past. now i know better. i think it might be the best song prince wrote in the 90s. it is just wonderful.
