I think its a good thing that Prince is trying to promote the idea of learning to actually PLAY. He also has to keep in mind that technology isn't going anywhere. He does seem to miss the fact that there are lots of artists out there who play. (the Roots, Van Hunt, Raphael Saddiq, John Mayer, etc.) He picks and chooses who he endorses (Beyonce, Alicia Keys, etc.) Prince seems to like pretty people who play music and people who have acknowledged him as a major influence. There's plenty of real music out; its just that most of it is just not getting top 40 rotation.
I think a little piece of him may feel that hip-hop pushed him out of the limelight (which it did), so he may occasionally take an indirect dig at the genre in general without actually being specific. Overall, POP music could use shot of vitamins. | |

He seems to have a good eye for spotting talented female musicians, but he has missed the mark on many occasions when it comes to the female singers he has been associated with. I mean, did he really think that Vanity,Brenda, Susan, Carmen and Apollonia could sing. He is so hung up on looks that it clouds his judgment sometimes. He always throws Beyonce's name out there whenever he talks about talented artist of this generation, even though he admitted that he had to teach her scales. Prince is smitten by her beauty, so she is forgiven for not being a 'real' musician. Does or has he ever endorsed any male artist? | |

He's given D'Angelo & Outkast props. Coincidentally, both have mentioned Prince as a major influence. Artists like Javier, Anthony Hamilton, Musiq, Amel Larrieux, (although he may mention her if she sells over 500k or puts on something sexy), Monica (come on, she's easily Whitney Houston's successor), Amp Fiddler...I could go on easily...get no mention. I don't expect him to mention anyone, period.
He may have taught Beyonc'e a scale or two on piano, but vocally she knows hella scales. She loves those diminished runs. She may not read music, but she uses scales all on her own. Prince likes Bey because she's young, cute, is a total package performer and he wouldn't mind hittin' dat ass. | |
