What "old" songs will he play after the Musicology Tour?? The man says he will retire the hits after this tour, what about the songs off of the old albums that weren't hits??

Prince said the same thing when he first changed his name to a symbol. I saw the "Jam Of The Year" tour in 1997 when his name was still a symbol. The majority of the songs in that concert were the old songs.
I don't believe Prince this time either. I think this a way to get the old fans to come to the concert, fill up the coliseums, and boost the sales of the new album that was included in the price of the concert ticket. It's a very smart move on his part though. Prince is not crazy, he'll perform the old songs again. If he were to do a tour of only the new songs and tell the world that it would only feature the new songs, he would be lucky to fill up an auditorium, let alone a coliseum. Hell nah. I'm sure one could come up with a killer 2-hour play set fromt he past decade and it'd still be good. How's this...these were released 1995 and beyond P Control Days of Wild 18 & Over Billy Jack Bitch I hate U Shhh Crystal Ball Don't Play Me Fascination Circle of Amour The Truth Beautiful Strange Undisputed Pretty Man The Work She loves me for me Everlasting Now Musicology Million Days ICP&C When I lay my hands on U Judas Smile Y should Eye do that? Peace Magnificent Mad Supercute This list wasn't even that hard to come up with. I am sure there are songs here that don't appeal to everyone...there are even more songs I could add that would be pleasing to me. Personally I'd welcome a tour showcasing all of this newer music. your thoughts.... Look at the ONA as an example, which was billed as a non-hits tour (despite the piano segment incorporating some of them). He played songs like Extraordinary, Anna Stesia, Strange Relationship, When You Were Mine, Other Side of the Pillow, Take Me With You... none of which were chart hits. In recent years, he's also played songs like Elephants & Flowers, Shhhh!, Days of Wild, Bambi, The Ride, The One, Calhoun Square, Beautiful Strange, Dolphin, Peach, The Truth, DMSR, Ballad of DP, Mountains, Joy in Repetition, Let's Work... again all not chart hits. So even if he eliminates the "hits", it's clear that he will keep reaching through all parts of his past catalogue to find songs that he is interested in playing. At the ONA soundcheck, someone asked him to play Power Fantastic, and he responded by saying, "yeah, we really should start playing that one." When he says he'll retire the "hits," I think that just means you won't see PR, WDC, LRC, Let's Go Crazy, Rasberry Beret, U Got the Look, Cream, etc. He'll still be playing everything else, especially songs with interesting musical arrangements that challenge the band and give them an opportunity to stretch. Prince has never said that he won't play old songs again, just that this is the last time he'll play the "hits." 95% of the songs he released prior to 1995 were not hits, so there's no reason to think he doesn't intend to keep playing them. Also, many of the old songs that he chooses to play now (When You Were Mine, Let's Work, DMSR, Baby I'm a Star, Take Me With You, Beautiful Ones, Girls & Boys, SOTT, Ballad of DP, IIWYG, Forever in My Life, Anna Stesia, Joy in Repetition) were not even released as singles, and are certainly not "hits" to the casual musical listener. He'll continue playing these types of songs as long as he finds them interesting and challenging to perform. No Candy 4 Me | |

your thoughts.... I think he'll still play a lot of the old songs but I honestly believe he'll add the "dirty" hits he gave up on this tour. I almost think the "clean" tour is a gimmick to allow him to play the hits fans missed on Musicology4ever. At least that's why my fingers keep being crossed. Well, there are many many songs that haven't been played to death yet.
Personally, I would enjoy hearing a couple of these ones live at the next leg of the tour. I mean, the hits are ok for America, but I don't think Prince can pull off yet another hits tour over here in Europe. Especially not for the Dutch. The man knows we expect something different and that we're pretty much ok with whatever he does, as long as it's not hits and medley's of hits. So, for me, I'd say "Prince, take a pick...." Back when he first changed his name, MTV, BET, and VH1 reported that Prince changed his name to an unpronouncable symbol. They said he was no longer Prince and would no longer perform "Prince" songs. I think Prince even mentions that himself in an interview with Vibe magazine later that year, I'm not sure, I would have to pull it and check it, but I think he himself says that. I remember reporters saying "can you imagine never hearing songs like Little Red Corvette performed live again". Even before the name change, I remember Donnie Simpson on "Video Soul" and MTV News reporting that Prince had retired from recording and was going to release strictly albums from the vault from then on. They said Prince was going to work on movies and write ballets. Even before that, in 1984, I remember Wendy giving a radio interview to some show like "Black Beat" or "Radioscope" (I can't remember the name of the show). She said one day Prince would disappear from the face of the earth and strictly work on other artists' material. Prince has been telling lies for years. It's all part of promotion. "When You Were Mine", "Let's Work", "Baby I'm A Star", "Take Me With U", "Girls & Boys", and "Sign O The Times" all are singles. I have the 45s at home. Casual listeners that listened to R&B radio back in the day would definately remember "D.M.S.R.". Prince was VERY well known in the R&B world long before the pop world ever discovered him. R&B radio back in those days played many songs that were not released as singles. They also played "Automatic", "Lady Cab Driver", "Free", and "International Lover". That's just naming tracks from one album. Those were never released as singles but the casual R&B listeners back then were very familiar with them.
