It's from an old 1960's SFX record (the title of the sample is "Barroom Brawl" or something like that...)
The sample is probably on the same record that has that Baby sample that was used in "Delirious" and that "Hey, that's my taxi!" sample that was used in "Lady Cab Driver"...

I wonder why I keep seeing people say that it is a clip of him being booed at the RS concert. It sounds nothing like booing at a concert. It sounds more like a bar room brawl or a boxing match.

That's because it is Prince, the sample I'm talking about is at the end of "Lady Cab Driver" right before it segues into "All The Critics Love U In NY"... You hear this honking then there's this guy that shouts "Hey, that's my taxi!", that sample was used in alot of old 1960's movies, like the "The Sting" for example...

I remember reading a review or an interview that said that sample was from the Stones concert, I never thought it sounded like that, more like a horse race, but it was written that it was "inspired" by that concer or wa an actual sample. Maybe in a Rolling Stone interview or something.

The Sample is from the Spefx CD - ,(I don't recall which one), but when I worked at Tower Records we played some spefx cd's for halloween and I remember hearing this one. Incidently the sample on Pop Life was in reference to Big Chick his personal Body Guard who had a major coke problem hence the line "...what you putting in your nose...is that where all you money goes?" As well as the sound of thowing someone out

Regarding Neversin's comment about the Sting and Lady Cab Driver. YOU ARE CORRECT. I was watching it about 2 years ago and the minute I heard it, I said Lady Cab Driver without Prince's vo. They used it I think twice in the film eveything is the same including the horn honking.

Thanks for the info Neversin. I remember watching the Sting and thinking it sounded just like the end of Lady Cab Driver, but I tried to convince myself that my mind was probably playing tricks on me! Realising that it was a sample now explains it ! Cheers.

I never liked that interruption,it spoils the flow of the song, but I guess that was the intention ("life it ain't real funky unless it's got that pop").

Yes...
There was a limited CD box set in 1988 that had a vast collection of SFX from 1935 to 1975... It's a 25 CD box set, I can't recall the name of the set but it's out of print and fetches a heavy (and mean heavy as in $10.000+) price...

i always thought it sounded like a baseball game with someone up to bat and you hear that pop when they hit the ball and the crowd cheers. that's what it sounds like to me and i guess it would be appropriate being that baseball is supposed to be the all american past time.

I had heard the same rumors as PurpleCharm, that the sequence was a recording of the crowd booing Prince when he opened for the Stones in the early 80's. But I go with the majority opinion on this board.

CORRECT me if I'm wrong, but wasn't it a sample from the Rolling Stones concert in which got got boo'd and pelty with chicken parts?

I think the performance ended with "Rollem on Out" meaning bring in the headlining act?

It sounds like... 'throw the bum out". Which wouldn't make sense at a horse race or even a boxing match.
