For me the best performance I ever saw was Purple Rain at the AMA '85. It was electric and the way he kicked over the mic stand was just sheer genius!! He had the audience on their feet before the song was over. The band were so cool about it all, they must have rehearsed it a million times over!!

Lionel Ritchie must have thought about retiring there and then!

yeah that was great!!!!!

Not that I support bootlegging in any way, nor the distribution of and or swapping of bootlegged files.

But.

I'm just curious what you think is the greatest Prince live track, and WHY.

Go as obscure as you want, it don't matter, there's some of you who just HAVE to list some shit that nobody's ever heard of, like, "Prince on the crapper, 9/23/99, 2pm, noodling"

For ME, it's AMERICA live in Paris - the track from the Video. I think the video probably reinforces my opinion here. This was filmed before ATWIAD was released, (maybe?) so he's still high from the success of Purple Rain, and his band is just AMAZING... the energy on the stage could light New York for a century. His solos, his attitude, his control of the band - and just hell, the amount of FUN you can hear in his voice - I just love this thing.

There's a million others that are my second favorites, but this will be number one for me.

Kinda wish i saw "Now" live.

"Face Down" was a treat in '97

The video from "Take Me With U" is a classic. Where he runs around (and behind) the stage and incorporates "Controversy" into the guitar solo!

Yeah. Actually witnessing "Sign 'O' The Times/Play In The Sunshine" live on MTv in '87 was a surreal experience!

I just recently compared the 'Rave...' and 'One Nite Alone..' DVD's and found 'ONA...' much more genuine. 'Rave...' was trying too much.

"When You Were Mine" from the 'One Nite Alone...Live!' CD is precious!

next, please..

For me it's without a doubt 'The Question of U' from the Nude Tour show in Japan (1990). His guitar work, his singing, his dancing... having sex with the microphone stand...

I prefer this version of "HEAD":
Houston, December 9th 1981 (You Belong To Prince)
This is the coolest guitar-jam of them all

Where could one find the Lovesexy Live video? Is this the Nude tour? I think I saw parts of it once, but I'd love to own it.

There are two videos, aptly named Lovesexy1 and Lovesexy2, which can usually be found on ebay at a reasonable price. I bought mine from ebay and it's one of my best Prince purchases.
I'll probably have a couple little sexies on the stand-by, and we don't want to upset them, do we? So you just glide by me and say...what?

MMMM..... Very, Very Good choice. That was definetly an ill performance. I think that I have to go with 'The Ballad Of Dorthy Parker' on the Tonight Show a couple of years ago. Still Sign on MTV was pretty ill.

I totally agree. When i first saw the video(the long version) i thought it was the best live performance ever. P doesn't make music like that anymore, nor does he perform that energetically.

I have 2 disagree with u as far as music and energy goes. I saw P a couple of year ago when he did the Hit & Run Tour at the Hollywood Palladium. He was awesome and this year after the Grammy’s at the House of Blues. P let it all hang out. He jammed for hours. He is totally different when he performs in a more intimate environment. That’s where u want 2 c him and he’s at his very best. He can defiantly take it 2 another level at any given time.lol….
