The greatest LIVE Prince track.

Not that I support bootlegging in any way, nor the distribution of and or swapping of bootlegged files.

But.

I'm just curious what you think is the greatest Prince live track, and WHY.

Go as obscure as you want, it don't matter, there's some of you who just HAVE to list some shit that nobody's ever heard of, like, "Prince on the crapper, 9/23/99, 2pm, noodling"

For ME, it's AMERICA live in Paris - the track from the Video. I think the video probably reinforces my opinion here. This was filmed before ATWIAD was released, (maybe?) so he's still high from the success of Purple Rain, and his band is just AMAZING... the energy on the stage could light New York for a century. His solos, his attitude, his control of the band - and just hell, the amount of FUN you can hear in his voice - I just love this thing.

There's a million others that are my second favorites, but this will be number one for me.

I totally agree. When i first saw the video(the long version) i thought it was the best live performance ever. P doesn't make music like that anymore, nor does he perform that energetically.

Good luck on the p2p stuff. Really hard to find and download....

Anyway..yes the America Video is hot hot hot.

Other Video moments...

Baby I'm a star from atlanta 85. OMG! Goes on forever. Even slows down "while we get sleazy". Jerome comes out...incorporates the Bird. Just too fun.

It's gonna be a beautiful night...4 those of U on Valium...Manyu songs were squished into this song...6 et al. Even "The Scratch!". Another rare moment Prince is on the Drums. He always seems to be smiling whenever he gets behind those things

Head...from the Parade...Lying on the stage...music has been turned down to a minimum and P is just thinking of lyrics off of the top of his head..Electric man comes out.

And finally the Opening sequence to Lovesexy Live...as well as the Dirtymind/Controversy/Superfunky/Bob George sequence...brilliance...sheer brilliance.

just to name a few...

I think you can get that America video on Kazaa or Bearshare might be better. I have found not only the Video, but the audio track. I also bought a DVD and a video off Ebay that included it. It is the hottest sh*& ever. And Prince has his Kid Creol look..he even plays drums during it. It's smoking!!

For me the best performance I ever saw was Purple Rain at the AMA '85. It was electric and the way he kicked over the mic stand was just sheer genius!! He had the audience on their feet before the song was over. The band were so cool about it all, they must have rehearsed it a million times over!!

Lionel Ritchie must have thought about retiring there and then!
I'll probably have a couple little sexies on the stand-by, and we don't want to upset them, do we? So you just glide by me and say...what?

I agree with the ' 85 AMA performance of Purple Rain.. although it has been many years, what I remember of it was very nice.

If it's the version from ONA Live, then I completely agree.
More than the best live Prince track, I think it's among the best live performances of a song that I've heard - period.

I had a cd from some after show gig where he belted out a version of 773-9311..
(Apologies if that's not the correct phone number!)

As soon as that bass riff kicked in I'd always go tingly.

Joy in Repetiction from ONA! Smoking!

Also, it's been awhile since I've seen it, but I seem to remember the live version of A Love Bizarre from Sheila's live video to be pretty hot. Prince is even joking around (Wooden Leg), which is always fun to see.

Coolest tracks ever performed live. "All the critics" easily exceeds the album version released on the 1999 album. Dez really ruled that night!
