Chaos and Disorder I don't understand why people always have some bad things to say about this album. It is definitely one of my favorite albums and I absolutely LOVE "Dinner With Delores," "The Same December," "Zanalee," SHIT, I LIKE ALL OF THEM!!! (end histrionic ranting) Anyways, I also read a review saying that this album was a last minute thing and was rushed and also that Prince may have done this out of spite...something against the record co. at the time? So...tell me what you think. This love is a private affair...

I still love this album. No hype or anything and yet the album has some great tunes.
"Had U" is probably my favourite album closing track after "Temptation" and "Adore". -----------------------------------------

I think Chaos and Disorder is one of the best Prince albums I've ever heard. I love all of the songs on this one and I think it rocks. Also, I think Dinner with Delores is better than Dorothy Parker. Much more melodious. lol

I don't understand why this album flopped. It rocked! Prince must have been using an asbestos guitar on this album, his playing was so hot.
It was similar, in a very strange way, to Parade in that it was a short, enjoyable, and cohesive album. I got it in the motor right now and I ain't afraid to scare old ladies walking across a zebra crossing by blasting Zanalee out on full pelt! I'll probably have a couple little sexies on the stand-by, and we don't want to upset them, do we? So you just glide by me and say...what?

The main reason C&D unfairly gets so much negative attention is because Prince fans were pre-disposed to hate it since it was released by WB at a time when Prince was saying his freedom was imminent and that he was going to hold on to his "good" material until he was free. It was a public fact that Prince was negotiating out of his contract and haggling over what albums WB would get to satisfy his remaining obligations.
When you really listen to it objectively, there are many aspects to C&D that are far superior to the album that Prince fans were anticipating at the time... Emancipation. Because Prince hyped up Emancipation and talked about how great it was, it took many years for Prince fans to overcome the hype and realize that it's a decidedly mediocre album with very boring production, whereas C&D was recorded with one of his best bands ever. The same thing that happened to C&D also happened to Come. By the time Come was released, was publicly stating that the Gold Experience had much better material but would never be released because of his feud with WB. The result was that Come immediately got panned by critics and fans, and it's only been revisionist history that has given the album a fair shake (at least among fans). Now, years later, you'll hear a lot of people on the org talking about it as a really good album (even though some of it's earlier configurations were obviously better), which it is. C&D, like most Prince releases, definitely has its flaws. For one, it's a shame that he ruined Zanallee, much like he did with Endorphinmachine, by overproducing it. If he'd have released his original studio version of it, and gotten rid of some of the weaker tracks (replacing Right the Wrong, Dig U Better Dead and IRTIA with NPG-ear songs like Mad, Funky Design, Empty Room), it could have been one of his best albums. Had U is one of his best songs of the 90s IMHO. I Like it There is very solid. Into the Light/I Will are songs that Prince obviously likes, considering that he included them on his "9/11" ahdio release, along with other "personal" songs like Anna Stesia, The Holy River, Thy Will Be Done, Pearls Before the Swine, Space Universal Mix, etc. In any event, the negative perception of C&D has more to do with the bias of "fams" against WB than it does with people actually listening to it and hating it. Not nearly as bad as poeple claimed it to be. If he had released it after 1999 or Contreversy, it would've been critically acclaimed.
Instead, he released it in the shaddows of all his brilliant 80's output and TGE. The context and timing was wrong. [This message was edited Tue Aug 17 16:58:55 2004 by AsianBomb777]
